3695.0. "What is "GETVARSELECTOR" directive?" by ANNECY::JACQUEMOUX () Fri Sep 04 1992 18:43

	Hello,

Could you tell me what is the "GETVARSELECTOR" directive and what is it used for?
I cannot find information about it through the large DECmcc litterature.

It seems that it is no more supported by DECmcc V1.2, isn't it ?

Thanking you in advance,

According to the Bridge AM MS:

  GETVARSELECTOR DIRECTIVE

  Include to provide REGISTRATION FM support. Will
  return the variant selector attributes stored in
  in DNS (or local MIR) for the specified entry.

The Iconic Map uses this directive to get the variant selector attributes
(the ones flagged by the DEPENDS ON clause) from the Registration FM.
In other words: the GETVARSELECTOR dispatch entry points at the REGISTRATION
FM, but the GETVARSELECTOR directive is placed in the MS (and thus
Dictionary) to allow the IMPM to access it (similar to specifying the
REGISTER directive for child entities).

The user typically doesn't see this directive, though I think V1.1
allowed GETVARSELECTOR to be issued from FCL.
