3645.0. "basic questions about Mcc" by SRPSWS::ALVIS () Fri Aug 28 1992 00:49

I am new to DECMcc and need some basic questions answered. I am playing with
DECMcc BMS V1.1. I will be upgrading later to V1.2. My questions are

 (1) What is the use of the boot and load functions?

I hope, they can be use to trigger a node and downline load a file.

 (2) How do you register PC's? and

 (3) How do you define rulefrom the iconic map?

I am pulling a copy of the documentation off of the network but wanted
some advanced information. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Sorry I was unable to find these functions, I'm running 1.2,
where exactly do you find (on wich entity) these ?

> (2) How do you register PC's? and

All depends of the network's protocol that PCs is running:
PCs Decnet nodes, they haven't NML object defined by default, you
    could start it.
PCs IP nodes, if they've SNMP agent you could have MIB infos, in
anycase, you could use PING to have availability.
Other protocols (Appletalk, Novell, etc..), in this case you must have
an MCC's AM to control them.

All this is if you want to control the highest part of these protocol,
if you want only to have for example an alarm when the PC is down you
could register them like Ethernet stations, you'll have only the infos
for Data Level, but I thinks that for a PC is enough.

> (3) How do you define rulefrom the iconic map?

On the first option (FILE) of the iconic map you could use the verb
VIEW to switch between "Member View" (the configuration map) and
"Rule View" (the Alarm rules map), then open the TOOLBOX icon you
could see that contains new elements to build a rule, to have some
examples you could read the MCC_COMMON:MCC_ALARMS_SAMPLE_RULES.COM,
these are examples in FCL, you could adapt these to iconic map.

    				Hope this helps,
    				Ciao Luciano

   Hi Ciao,

I appreciated your answers. They were very helpful.

I found these functions under HELP FUNCTIONS in version 1.1 of BMS.
I have no upgraded to version 1.2.

I talked to CSC about these functions. They told me that they are
no implemented at this time. Thanks for your help. Beginners need
    great support like this.
