3637.0. "DECMCC/ULTRIX V1.2:COULD NOT DELETE GRAPH.OBJ." by ZTOIS1::VISTA (Renato VISTA, SIS Strasbourg, France) Thu Aug 27 1992 12:44

    Hi,

    Working on a DECmcc/ULTRIX V1.2 platform, my customer gets the
    following message (in a new Window), during an Mcc_Iconic_Map session :

    "DECmcc Message : Software error: could not delete graphical object".

    That message occurs after double-clicking on a Domain-Icon.

    Does anybody have any idea about the circumstances of occurring of that
    kind of messages ?

    Thank you for replying.
    Renato

    PS :	- the total number of domains loaded is 56
    		- the total number of Global Entities is 170
    		- during the Interactive Session, 340 rules are running.

    Hi Erik,

    Thank for your reply. Is it possible to have information about the
    status of this QAR ? Is there any patch available ?

I just entered your note as a QAR this morning. There is no
response yet. Maintainers usually follow up here when answering the QAR.

    Renato,

    I have a few questions about the error. You indicated that the error
    was recieved in a "new window". What do you mean my new?

    How many map objects are in the domain when the error occurs and is it
    reproduceable at will? If so, could you give me the sequence of events
    so I could try it here?

    Was there a background present on the map?

    Regards, Bob Murray

    Hi Bob,

    And thank you for your reply.

    1) "New window" means a message window containing the error message,
    depending of the #mcc_iconic_map current session. An Acknowlegment
    must be done to close the window.

    2) There is no background map at any domain sub-level.

    3) The message occurs when double-clicking on sub-domain icons of a given
    current domain ; the number of entities contained in this current domain
    is variable according the situation of map-moving operations. So, the
    message seems NOT to be dependant of the number of global entities.

    4) The problem is not really reproduceable at will. But it seems that
    the message occurs when notification(s) is(are) done on Notification
    Window of Notification Services Application (that's why I've given the
    number of current enabled active rules...).

    Regards,
    Renato

3637.6race condition when coloring icons - should be a harmless errorMCC1::DITMARSPeteFri Sep 25 1992 23:1112
I believe this happens when an alarm fires and a
notification arrives while someone is doing either
a lookinto-domain or a view->rule/view->member.

Renato: Tell your customer it's a harmless error and to ignore
it for now. We'll (probably) fix it in V1.3.

Bob: The lookinto code isn't locking the X mutex when it
destroys the current view. I pointed this out to Jim L
late in the V1.2 cycle, but we decided that the worst case
would be exactly what this customer has seen: a message
to the effect that an object couldn't be deleted.
