3610.0. "Token Ring or DEFZA" by FROCKY::WILTRUD () Mon Aug 24 1992 12:03

    Hello

    which Access Moduls are supported, if I've got a Ultrix System with a
    3rd partie Token Ring Interface (for example TECTRA from Magma) or our
    FDDI controller DEFZA? I'm sure about the TCP/IP SNMP Access Module,
    but what's about FDDI or the Extended LAN Manager Module?

Thanks for help

Interesting questions...

I don't know of any AMs that support Token Ring, but FDDI...

 The "Extended LAN Manager Module" is actually three AMs (Bridge AM,
Concentrator AM, and FDDI Station AM) packaged together. Since all three
use the DECmcc Ethernet Access (EA) Routines for Datalink access, there is
no "automatic/default" support for DEFZA.

 However, a workaround for this is to use the VIA PORT qualifier
on Bridge, Concentrator, and FDDI-Station requests, specifying the
DEFZA's ident (something like "fza0"). This fools the EA routines into
thinking they're accessing an Ethernet (with the driver doing the
Ethernet -> FDDI conversions).

 Note that the FDDI AM requires access to a "gateway" (DECbridge 5xx/6xx,
also possibly DECconcentrator) to do its SMT requests; no local (host
port) SMT functionality is currently supported.

 Hope this helps.
