3600.0. "unaligned data fix up errors for dna4_am Ultrix" by HERON::PATEL_A (LoLo-AQIC-I82Q-B4IP, - LMF) Thu Aug 20 1992 16:17

    On DECmcc Ultrix, I am seeing several entries in the error log...

    event class Operational event

    Fixed up unaligned data access for pid _1069 (mcc_dna4_am) at pc
    0x4241do

    Is thsi normal, if so can we stop logging it etc... should I be
    concerned

3600.1It's a bugTOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Thu Aug 20 1992 16:345
This is not normal. It is an exception, actually being processed
by the hardware. Can you give us any indication of what the AM is
doing when the errors are generated?

3600.2QAR 3106TOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Thu Aug 20 1992 16:382
There is an outstanding QAR (3106) reporting a similar problem.

3600.3mainly doing "look into"HERON::PATEL_ALoLo-AQIC-I82Q-B4IP, - LMFTue Aug 25 1992 10:158
    I am not really doing much with node4. I have events sinked to my
    system which I look at (if they ever get there ;-)). at most the thing
    I have been doing is "look into" (ie double click on object) the node4
    is actually a Ultrix system running DECnet and IP.

    According to a Ultrix "bod", he said that there is a line you can place
    in the rc.local to stop loging these errors, he also suggested that
    this has been seen on other applications too...
3600.4What command?TOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Tue Aug 25 1992 14:0510
I was not aware of the ability to supress this error. Do you
know the actual command?

In any case, the hardware will still be taking an exception
(otherwise the alignment would not be fixed). So the root problem
should be fixed, rather than putting out the indicator light.

3600.5Here it is -- not yet testedHERON::PATEL_ALoLo-AQIC-I82Q-B4IP, - LMFTue Aug 25 1992 15:2012
    I have not been able to try this yet -- due to other priorities...

>>to be inserted in the /etc/rc.local:

echo 'suppress unaligned data messages' >/dev/console
/usr/bin/uac s 0
/usr/bin/uac p 0

    I agree the root problem should be fixed...

3600.6does it still happen?TOOK::JEAN_LEEWed Dec 30 1992 16:2716
    Amrit,

    	Have you seen this message recently?

    	I tried to reproduce this message, using DECmcc DNA4 (including
    	event logging), but have not been able to.

    	I would appreciate if you can give me an update on this problem,
    	using newer version of DECmcc.

    	Thanks.

    Jean-Lee, we are in the process of upgreading all systems to current
    revs etc... will see if the problem is still there, note I was given a
    workaround which I used.

    will be in touch later - Amrit
