3588.0. "PABX AM For NT ?" by HKGACT::KENNETHTO () Wed Aug 19 1992 11:19

Hi,

I would like to know if there is PABX AM for Northern Telecom PABX
(Meridion SL1 ) developed by some people or is there already any SI project
for developing this PABX AM? We have a customer looking for this kind of
management tools for their PABX.

If there is none, could any experienced people give me some idea how much effort
it takes to develop one? The functions which the customer requires roughly are:

1. define and change various configurations, trunk/agent grouping, parameters.
2. Display, print the current and accumulated system performance, call
information, agent/trunk status, utilization statistics and faults.
3. Store and produce standard/customized reports.

Your feedback would be much appreciated.

There is no currently existing AM that I know about. However, contact
Norm Valentine in Valbonne, FRANCE. There may be some negotiations
and future development going on in Europe.

As mentioned in reply .1, there is no existing AM today. You may want
to contact Norm Valentine in Valbonne to see if there is any progress in
Europe.

Does the Meridian SL1 have an agent? What protocol does it speak? If
it is a standard protocol (SNMP or CMIP) then basic management functions
(not statistics) come with the platform. If the protocol is
proprietary, then an AM, and maybe an FM, must be written to manage the
switch. Generally, we quote an average development time of one calendar
year. Use this as a guide. If the switch is very complex in terms of
contained objects or in operations or in numbers and format of
properties, then the time will be longer. Usually, you cannot
significantly reduce the development time by adding personnel. A good
deal of the time is spent in defining and specifying the managaged
objects and in test of running code. Writing the code is not usually
the significant portion of time spent for an average object.

<< 3. Store and produce standard/customized reports.

Recording, Exporting, and standard reports are part of the platform.
You need do no extra work for these. Customized reports require work
with the native report writer (Datatrieve or INGRES report writer) to
create the required queries for information and report output formats.
