3525.0. "TSM V1.6 vs. DECmcc-SMS 2.1" by GWTEAL::WOESTEMEYER (Why??...Why not!!!) Mon Aug 10 1992 17:01

Problem:

	Customer has DECmcc-SMS, V2.1. Since there have been 2
	updates to TSM sinct then customers have been installing
	the TSM updates from CD. This worked fine when going to
	TSM V1.5, but going to 1.6 yields license errors.

Question:
	Is the group license for DECmcc-SMS suppose to work for all
	versions of layered products included in the bundled kit?

Cross posted in the TSM notes conference.

3525.2It looks as if this is what's happening..PLUNDR::LOWEGDon't believe a wordWed Sep 02 1992 09:3813

    From what I believe is happening is that the installation of TSM V1.6
    now checks the date of the PAK (which is a product release date) if
    this date is older than the product (TSM V1.6) then it sees it as an
    invalid licence. I know for certain that the TSM V1.6 fails unless the
    licence is NEW but I have not tried it with DECmcc-SMS but I can't
    imagine it being any different.

    Has anybody successfully installed TSM V1.6 using the licence for
    DECmcc-SMS. I noticed that on VTX the DECmcc-SMS licence now has
    a DATE of 02-SEP-1993 which according to my theory should work..

3525.3The answer and a bit of gossip..PLUNDR::LOWEGDon't believe a wordThu Sep 03 1992 10:3513

    I will answer my own note...

    TSM V1.6 will not work with ANY DECmcc-SMS PAK as I have tried it. So
    the only way for SMS users to run V1.6 of TSM is to install a valid TSM
    PAK (or upgrade to EMS).
    Plus I have heard it through the grapevine that SMS development has
    been ceased (which is sort of confirmed by its absence in the new
    DECdirect catalogue) so I suppose that this is unlikely to change.
    There is supposed to be a letter winging its way to existing SMS users
    to inform them of this but for some reason its being delayed.

		Product Management have put in place an upgrade license
		for SMS to EMS . In UK Mike Patrick will drive this
		implementation .

		I've attached fyi the European Sales update that will be
	published now . (Note that the mlp in the US for this license
	is 500 $ compared to 100$ in Europe ).

DECmcc SMS to DECmcc EMS Solution migration .

CONTACTS :

Marc Malaise, DTN: 828-6270 , BONNET::MALAISE , @VBO

Highlight :

	o DECmcc SMS no longer available for purchase by customers

	o DECmcc SMS customers can upgrade to DECmcc EMS License for 100$

	o Protect investment of DECmcc SMS installed base

	o Simple way to implement this Migration (1 Part-Number) .

As mentionned in the April European Sales Update , with the introduction of the
new software version of DECmcc family of products , the DECmcc SMS license
is no more available and the product is being phased-out . This article
outline how ALL DECmcc SMS customers should migrate to the High level DECmcc
EMS software in order to keep taking benefit of the EMA/DECmcc future evolution.

Problem Statement :
---------------------

In order to reduce the number of software Package with the new version of
the DECmcc Family of products , TNSG/NSM (Nas System Management ) Corporate
Product Management has decided to stop selling DECmcc SMS Software and to
'upgrade' those customers to the DECmcc EMS Software .(Note that DECmcc SMS
is just a subset of DECmcc EMS ) .

HOW DO I MIGRATE MY CUSTOMER WHO HAS DECmcc SMS .
--------------------------------------------------

All DECmcc SMS customers are eligible for the equivalent functionality of
DECmcc EMS through a special 'PArt-Number' available in the Price file
for a period of 6 months starting at least September 1st .

All they have to do is order this part-number in order to get the
DECmcc EMS V2.2 License :

o DECmcc SMS to DECmcc EMS Upgrade license :

	Part Number 			 MLP

	QL-O4GA9-AA			 100 $

All DECmcc SMS Customers will need to purchase the appropriate media,
documentation, Customers subscribed to CDDS can simply install the equivalent
DECmcc EMS kit.

o  Media and documentation kits:

   -  DECmcc EMS 			QA-YFVAA-H*

DECmcc SMS service contracts will not automatically be changed to DECmcc EMS
so customers must change their service contracts to receive future releases
of DECmcc EMS .

Customer with a DECmcc SMS service contract (or Warranty) will need to order:

o  The appropriate service contracts:

   -  DECmcc EMS 			QT-YFV**
