3442.0. "PROCSECTCNT parameter minimum incorrect" by BRAT::BUKOWSKI () Mon Jul 27 1992 20:15

    FYI: I tried to install the SSB VMS V1.2 of BMS last week. The
    intallation immediately bombed out telling me that the sysgen parameter
    called "PROCSECTCNT" was 32, but needed to be 64. I double checked the
    release notes under "Planning to Install DECmcc" and under section B
    ("Required Quotas and Parameters"). The only reference to this sysgen
    parameter says to set it for 32. Sounds like the documentation needs
    to be changed. This wouldn't be so bad, buty "PROCSECTCNT" is a
    non-dynamic parameter which require a reboot.

    And it really should be larger for real use. 64 is good for the
    install. Given the size of many images on VMS these days a value
    of 200 is more like it.

3442.2And a customer found it in the hard wayISIDRO::BURGOSLuis Burgos. NSC Spain.Tue Feb 09 1993 15:1214

    There is a costumer who has found the same problem when going to do an
    instalation on a production system, and he is very upset for it,
    since he said he has double check every release note and instalation
    manual, and nowhere he found that he should change this parameters.
    Which he adds it's not one that get increased by the use, or with the
    number of aplications that run on the machine like others are.

    I think somebody should make sure this kind of things don't happen, and
    at least place it on the release notes when it's detected, since this
    little details could make somebody very angry and start finding
    "problems", in an otherwise a good product.

    Regards.
3442.3Please QAR/SPR this kind of problem...TOOK::MINTZErik MintzTue Feb 09 1993 20:017
This note has been brought to the attention of the documentation group.
Unfortunately, it is too late for the V1.3 documents (this is why
we push QARs; this note was not tracked). If there is indeed a problem
with the current documentation, we will try to catch it in the release notes.

3442.4It is a common (but not well known) problemTOOK::R_SPENCENets don't fail me now...Fri Feb 26 1993 14:277
    In general, the default 32 is way too small for most applications
    that are running on VMS these days. UCX is an example of one who
    who can use a larger value, also DECmcc.

    I use a value of 200 on my system.
