3424.0. "Can multiple AM/FM's be installed at the same time?" by FOUR62::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Fri Jul 24 1992 13:21

Since the lenghty part of installing DECmcc is in the installation of additional
AM's and PM's, I'd like to know the possible concequences under V1.2 of
having multiple installations, of AM's and/or FM's running at the same time?

What problems could we run into if any?

thanks,
Al

3424.1Probably not a good ideaTOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, dtn 226-5033Fri Jul 24 1992 13:405
Currently, the dictionary only allows a single writer at a time.
Since installing an MM usually involves a dictionary update, simultaneous
installs will likely fail due to a conflict over the dictionary.

    In case of an installation where the new help files will be built
    automatically (as the DECmcc ELM FM), you can start the next
    installation during the first is building the help files.
    But be careful, the IVP could fail for the first installation.

Or to take that suggestion one further, if the installation gives you
the option, decline to update the help files until you run the last installation.

Running the TSAM installation in parallel with any other installation
will most certainly result in problems of one sort or another.
