2993.0. "Deregistered entities again" by NSCRUE::KEANE (U.S. NIS Service Engineering and Delivery) Wed May 13 1992 21:28

    VMS V5.5
    BMS t1.2.7
    TSAM
    ELM
    TCP/IP DA
    Local NS

    I deregistered snmp .ip.pwam. At some point later I restarted mcc and I
    get the following errors from the IMPM and from Notification.

Map Window Message: One or more global entities is deregistered. Unable to
display them.

An error has occurred while determining the contents of the domain.

    As you can see the following show command gives a message about a
    deregistered entity but I can't figure our how to get rid of it in
    the domain context. None of my delete commands work. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Scott

2993.1Reload MIR ???VNASWS::HONISCHGuenter Honisch ACT AustriaThu May 14 1992 21:5418
    I had this problem in 1.2.4 it looked to me that SNMP entities got
    converted by some magic into something like domains but not real ones.

    the only solution I found for such problems is to keep a empty MIR from
    the installation in a saveset,
    extract all infos with dump_dns com file
    edit the generated load_dns com file
    and populate the empty mir
    fix up all the map problems
    and after 2-3 hrs try again...

    I learned it the hard way to keep the mir in a Saveset before I do any
    suspect thing like autoconfig...

    I would be glad if there is any easier way !

2993.2back in businessNSCRUE::KEANEU.S. NIS Service Engineering and DeliveryTue May 19 1992 14:1812
Hello Guenter,

   Thanks for the suggestion. I was afraid I would have to do this. I used the
mcc_dump_ns.com procedure with some modifications to dump the existing db. I
then copied in new mcc_dns_att.dat and mcc_dns_ent.dat files and ran the load
procedure. Once I finished copying the old map files to the new file names I
was back in business and the error was gone. Like you said it would be nice if
there was an easier way, but at least I didn't have to rebuild from scratch.

 Thanks,
 Scott
