2937.0. "DECwindow sessions remain after exiting DECmcc T1.2.7" by FOUR62::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Tue May 05 1992 15:53

This may or may not be concidered good behaviour, but I noticed that under
T1.2.7, if I start DECmcc in iconic map mode then open a DECterm window
from the applications menu to startup the FCL interface, upon a clean
requested exit from the ICONic map interface, the FCL interface remains.

It does exit cleanly when command EXIT is entered or the window is closed
using the window manager EXIT.

Is this normal or should the secondary window go away with DECmcc exit?

"may or may not" pretty much describes it. You are creating a
subprocess and then asynchonously telling the parent to exit. In
pure u**x terms this is perfectly legal (parentship of the subprocess
is tranferred to init (pid 1) and it lives on as sort of a
semi-detached process). But you could also argue that the
applications are logically in a hierarchy and should be shot if
    active when the parent terminates.

QAR it if you can make a case for changing the behavior.

Are you running on VMS or ULTRIX?

Please describe what happens when you exit. I haven't seen this
    on vms.

Yes it is the normal behavior.

Really not much to it.

I start the iconic map interface......MANAGE/ENTER/INTERF=DECW....

it comes up as expected.....just for excercise, I open a domain and go down
one level.....then go to the application menu and start an FCL session.

Terminal window opens, and puts me into command line mode.

I go back to the iconic map and pick FILE and QUIT....select YES on the
confirmation, the disk jiggles and jiggles and closes the iconic map
window in a matter of perhaps 5 to 10 seconds, but leaves the FCL window
alone.

I can then use this FCL window as if I had fired it off from DCL.

When I issue the EXIT command or a ^C or ^Y, it exits cleanly and the
window goes away.

Don't really know what else I can say....if you have further questions
please give me a call or send e-mail. Be happy to help.
