2894.0. "DECW$SERVER_0 into an infinite loop" by KETJE::VDKERCKHOVE (Never say NEVER) Thu Apr 30 1992 12:01

Hi,

The customer I'm working with has a strange problem with the DECW$SERVER_0
process, going into an infinite loop, taking up 100% CPU and blocking all
DECwindows applications.

Up till recent, they have never seen this problem. They were using DECwindows
LSE, DECterms, DECWindows mail and fileview...

Since a couple of weeks, they are preparing Maps and Domains for their DECnet
network, consisting of about 700 systems, to be installed from January onwards.
It's a hierarchical network, consisting of a lot (about 50) of domains in 3
layers. They contain NODE4 entities that are partially registered, because they
are not physically installed yet.

The problem always occurs at a manipulation in DECmcc, but we did not find
a sequence to reproduce it at will. When DECwindows is restarted, the same
operation does not reproduce the problem. Sometimes it occurs after 2hrs of
work, sometimes after 5min, but each time at a different manipulation.

Anyone else who has seen this ?

Found it! The v1.2 iconic map can get into an infinite
loop in a few cases. They usually involve doing many
    selections/deselections.

    It is fixed for v1.3.
