2747.0. "conversion from local MIR to DNS?" by HGOVC::LILLIANTANG () Mon Apr 13 1992 06:50

With DECmcc v1.2, if the user decided to start without using DNS, are there
any tools, or easy ways to convert from local MIR to DNS, for example,
when the network gets large, or a second director is introduced?
Thanks

    It is expected that a pair of conversion utilties will be on the SSB
    kit. They were not ready in time for the field test update.

    These utilities will extract all entity instances from your current
    namespace (either local or distributed) using DECmcc Director (actually
    they create a procedure that will re-register all your instances in
    a new namespace - local or distributed) and the second tool will
    change the filenames of the mapfiles to a transportable format
    so the new domains in the new namespace can read them.

    At this time only the parent entity info plus reference info is
    saved. Things like LINE SPEED are not and need to be put back
    manually if you had any such instances.

    Also, CIRCUIT entities are not handled at this time and partial
    registrations may or may not work at this time. We hope to correct
    the partial registration issue if we can.

    Are there already names for these tools?

2747.3The names plus a pointer to MCC-TOOLSLINDAS::SZABIETWed Sep 02 1992 14:0327
The MCC-TOOLS notes conference is a great resource for finding DECmcc
tools. Note #1.1 lists directory tree TOOK::USER$778:[SURVIVAL...] that was
created to house DECmcc V1.2 tools, icons, mibs, public kits, patches,
documentation, etc.

     TOOK::USER$778:[SURVIVAL.VMS.MIR-TOOLS] contains VMS MIR tools:

     >>>> The names of the VMS tools that Rob mentioned in .1 are:
     >>>>      MCC_DUMP_DNS.COM
     >>>>      MCC_MOVE_MAPS.COM

     TOOK::USER$778:[SURVIVAL.ULTRIX.MIR-TOOLS] contains ULTRIX MIR tools

     >>>> The names of the ULTRIX tools mentioned in .1 are:
     >>>>      MCC_DUMP_NS.CSH
     >>>>      MCC_MOVE_MAPS.CSH

A set of DECmcc ULTRIX utilities were also included on the DECmcc V1.2
ULTRIX kit. These tools are located on /usr/mcc/mcc_system.

Note that these two command files weren't included on the DECmcc V1.2
VMS kit (under mcc_system).
