| I have encountered this same problem running DECmcc V1.2.0 (SSB).
Everything is fine when commands are issued from FCL. When I restart
the IMPM, things run VERY slowly for a few minutes, then all is well.
When I say things run slowly, I mean that mouse clicks in the map
window don't show results for several seconds, even on menu items.
All other windows on workstation are fine.

When you start up IMPM, do you by any chance open a large
domain hierarcy? If so, that's what is taking the time.
How frequently does the "file access error during probe"
problem appear?

| Pete,
I am opening a domain with many members, but I only have five
domains total, and the hierarchy is only two deep.
The "file access error" occurs often enough to make DECmcc almost
unuseable, though I have noticed that the problem does not seem to
occur as much since I increased VIRTUALPAGECNT to 100000.
The "slowness" to which I was referring showed up again last night.
The DECwindows map window, and the Notification window simply freeze.
DECmcc continues to process alarms, but the map window has a pulldown
operations menu that is partially painted and is a separate entity from
the map window. That is to say, I can collapse the map window and the
pulldown menu remains fixed in place and unmoveable.
In addition, the map window menu bar has disappered. No error
messages appear in the IMPM startup window. I have had to Ctrl-Y out
from the startup window on 3 occassions in order to restart DECmcc.
I can't stress the importance of getting these problems fixed. I
am trying to get two management stations set up in an operational
environment for my customers, but all they see is garbage.
We are currently running VMS V5.5-1 and DECwindows, DECmcc V1.2.0
on a VAXstation 3100/SPX Model 38 and a VAXstation 4000 Model 60.
Thanks,
Dan
