2584.0. "DECnet/OSI and Autoconfig ." by BONNET::MALAISE (All you need is laugh!) Tue Mar 17 1992 15:55

	Will the Autoconfiguration available in 1.2 found DECnet/OSI nodes ?

2584.1do the DECnet /OSI nodes respond to NICE messages?TOOK::NAVKALWed Mar 18 1992 20:1112

	Hi MaRc,

	Lets see, do DECnet/OSI nodes respond to NICE messages? Just as
	the phase 5 is required to respond to NICE, if DECnet/OSI is
	architected to respond to NICE messages, at the very least
	V1.2 Autoconfiguration will be able discover these
	nodes.

	Does this help?

2584.2It looks that we might have to modify draft SPD.BONNET::MALAISEAll you need is laugh!Thu Mar 19 1992 08:4847

	You turn the question around . What I see from your answer is
	that the DECnet Autotopology just use NICE , in that case
	it will not be able to found DECnet/OSI nodes , as I assume
	this node don't understand a NICE Request (At least my DECstation
	3100 that runs DECnet/OSI don't).s

		If that's the case , we need asap to modify the drafts
	SPD that mention the following information :

>>
>>	o The DECmcc Configuration Package (SPD# 39.71.xx), which provides
>> the ability to automatically discover, register, and map managed
>> objects by class. Supported classes DECnet Phase IV and DECnet
>> Phase V nodes, TCP/IP hosts, and DIGITAL FDDI devices LAN Bridges.
>> Users can define domains for each class, and set network boundaries.
>> The software queries DECnet routers, IP gateways, and Bridge span-
>> ning trees for instance data such as network names and addresses.
>> As devices are located and data gathered, the Configuration Package
>> automatically maps them in appropriate class domains and registers
>>	   them.
>>
>> NOTE: This package that the appropriate Access Modules be installed
>> to discover and register the following device types: DECnet Phase IV
>> and DECnet/OSI nodes, TCP/IP hosts, and Digital LAN Bridges and FDDI
>> devices. The DECnet and TCP/IP SNMP AMs are included with the
>> DECmcc Director, Basic Management System (BMS), and Enterprise Man-
>> agement Station. DECmcc Director and BMS users must purchase the
>> DECmcc ELM AM package separately to perform autoconfiguration and
>> autotoplogy functions for Digital LAN Bridge and FDDI devices.
>> DECmcc EMS includes all the modules required for for these functions.
