| OSI compliance is far more complicated than you have suggested. OSI
is a very large scope. What part of OSI is something to be compliant
with? DECmcc V1.2 has some OSI imbedded within it but it would be
very arrogant of us to claim that compliance with DECmcc V1.2
established compliance.
If you talk about just the management part of OSI, then there are
several compliance issues that are in the forefront of discussion.
First, is the proving that an ISO CMIP IS implementation is compliant
with the CMIP standard at the IS level. That will be the first thing
a customer or vendor will ask? DECmcc V1.2 has no ISO CMIP protocol
implementation. There is a project ongoing that will deliver such
a protocol engine and it is being implemented with an API that
could be used to establish compliance. However, the protocol engine
will not be packaged with V1.2. It may be available to a small number
of internal DEC development organizations in the same time frame but
it will not be released for general use for quite some time.
There are issues of compliance to OSI objects. There are issues of
compliance to the OSI SMI. There are issues of compliance to the
OSI SMFs (ie. System Management Functions). OSI compliance without
further definition is a meaningless phrase. You need to specifically
identify which OSI standard you are interested in defining compliance
toware.
Yes, I know that customers ask if a particular thing is OSI compliant.
You must smile at them and say, "What particular area of OSI compliance
are you most interested in?" When they say all, nod your head knowingly
and start into your sales pitch that Digital is a leader in OSI
standards and has been a participant from the beginning of time. We
chiseled the words OSI on the original stone tablets. You follow up
with some positive words about Digital having OSI fully integrated into
our protocol implementations and that we are in the process of moving
our OSI management to the latest standards levels. When they ask when
will it be complete, you can respond with a smile, "When the standards
are complete."
As to a particular third party software implementation; Ask the vendor
who wrote the software.
