2412.0. "icon colours/propagation" by CLARID::HODSMAN (The Giraffe) Tue Feb 25 1992 08:19

I use DECmcc t1.2.4 to monitor an SNA network,
and I have some questions regarding icon colours.

To effectively monitor what is occuring
in a SNA network, it is essential
that propagation is set to latest rather than highest,
and I am glad to see that DECmcc 1.2 has this functionality,
as the lack of it made DECmcc 1.1 almost unusable for SNA.

However I am surprised that I have to choose between latest and
highest. In a complex network eg DNA/SNA, I might well want
highest for some entities and latest for others simultaneously.

A second monor problem that I have is that when I change
icon severity values I seemm to have to exit from the map before they
take effect. I am sure there is a short cut, but I dont understand
    what.

Finally, when I use double line icons, how can I reset them
to the original colour. When I set a normal icon back to blue
it goes back to the default colour. However for the double line icons
the space in the middle is set to blue, and not the background colour
    as default.

    Regards,
    jeremy

In V1.2, the propagation policy (latest or highest) can only be applied
per domain basis; I doubt we will have time to do what you suggested
    before V1.2 SSB.

Well, there's no short cut; you have to save customize and exit in
order for the changes to take effect.

I am not sure what the problem is here. Are you saying when you do a
reset alarm on a double line icon nothing happens? I tried it on my
    system and it works fine.

When certain alarm rules fire, I wish the map to go back to the state
it was in initailly. To do this I set all icons blue.

But, for parallel line icons, instead of the background colour
appearing between the lines, the colour blue appears.
What colour should I select to get background.

A new problem that has appeared concerns two single line icons
between the same two nodes. It is very easy to get the unwanted effect
off the second line being drawn directly on top of the first one.
Once this happens, it is impossible to get two lines back again
without deregistering and reregistering the icons.

I also find on occasion that a reset alarms does not reset
some lines that have changed colour whenthe rest is done through the
    iconic map.

Is there a mechanism for "locking" a map. Once I have spent
several minutes ensuring that all lines appear exactly vertical
and horizontal, I find it very annoying to lose the pretty picture
should the mouse move slightly when I click on the icon for another
    reason eg resetting an alarm

Well, there's really no way to do what you want now... however,
the alarms descalation is working probably now (since X1.2.16 I think).
So you can have alarms color to go from Critical (or whatever) to
Clear if the alarms condition is not longer true. Does that fit
    your bill?

IMPM always connect lines from center of an icon to the center of other
icon, and that is why you are seeing two lines (lines or line icons,
    doesn't matter) overlap.

    >> Is there a mechanism for "locking" a map.

    Not for V1.2, sorry.

What version are you running? Would you be more specific as to
exactly what happened? (i.e. what kind of entities are you dealing
with? what changed color and what doesn't? etc...)
