2358.0. "Hardware requirements for DECmcc on ULTRIX" by SIOG::TINNELLY (Next village America..) Tue Feb 18 1992 09:48

    Hello Folks,

I have just finished a demo to the Department of Defence. As it was
difficult for us to know whether to propose MSU or DECmcc we decided to
demo both products and let the customer decide which platform best
suited their requirements. The outcome was that they got extremely
    excited about DECmcc (on ULTRIX).
In order to get them to sign the order I have some further meetings
with the customer. The initial issue that I need to resolve is how to
size the hardware. Is there a SPD available for DECmcc on ULTRIX.What
    are the minimum hardware requirements??

Are there hardware issues that should be taken into account now, should
they decide at a later date to migrate to OSF/1??

    REGARDS peter.

2358.2Be careful of quoting bare minimum systemsTOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, DECmcc Development, dtn 226-5033Tue Feb 18 1992 16:407
But please be aware that the minimum requirements are for minimum
functionality. As you increase the load on the system (more alarm rules,
more historical recording, etc) you will want more disk space, and
especially more memory, in order to maintain performance.

2358.3Min config = Late nightsSIOG::TINNELLYNext village America..Wed Feb 19 1992 08:0012

Many thanks for the pointers. I agree on the point re min config., from
experience I would never propose a bare minimum configuration. You
generally end up with an unhappy customer and lots of headaches.

It would be useful if some table existed to help field specialists
configure DECmcc.eg small network 10 nodes requires the following
hardware, medium sized network requires... If the configurations of the
Field tests sites were entered and sizes of networks being managed was
inputted here, and how they performed, would be very usefeul info.
