2297.0. "BMS 1.1 / VMS 5.5 - Can't Start HISTORIAN B/G Process." by EDOMCC::JONESR (Buy one and stop me ;-}) Fri Feb 07 1992 14:26

	Hi,

	I just upgraded to VMS 5.5 and tried to start the Histtorian
	background process - viz

$submit/que=xxx/para=(EDO)/restart sys$manager:mcc_historian_bg

	Looking at the log file from this command, the last few lines are:

$! end_of wait procedure
$!
$       BTS == "$SYS$SYSTEM:MCC_HISTORIAN_FM_BG.EXE"
$       BTS "EDO"
%QFILE-F-CREATERR, unable to create or open queue file
%QFILE-E-CREATERR, unable to create or open queue file
  MCC_HISTORY  job terminated at  7-FEB-1992 15:38:10.61

	Looks very much like a problem with the new queue system ??

	(I tried "$ help @sys$help:sysmsghelp error createrr" - but this
	error is not described)

	Is this a known problem, is there a patch, or will it be fixed
	in 1.2 ??

2297.1Don't Use logicals for DOMAIN directoriesCSC32::WOESTEMEYERWhy??...Why not!!!Fri Feb 07 1992 15:3311
    I ran into a similar problem with a customer a while back. Seems that
    he has specified a logical name as the directory when he had created
    the domain. Unfortunately MCC does not translate the logical correctly
    when it tries to open its file.

    If this is what you have done, since their is no way to modify the
    directory of the domain, it will have to be deleted and recreated with
    out using a logical for the directory path.

    This was SPRed, but I don't know if it will be fixed in the 1.2 time
    frame.
2297.2Yes it was a logical ...EDOMCC::JONESRBuy one and stop me ;-}Thu Feb 27 1992 10:410
