2288.0. "Anyone get any useful info from CHIPCOM ONLINE ?" by 42238::SYSTEM () Thu Feb 06 1992 17:54

Hi,

I have 4 ONLINE Concentrators which have V2.1 CHIPCOM management software.

I have loaded the CHIPCOM MIB that came with MCC V1.1. When I look into
the Interface entity Iam presented with 272 interfaces. This represents
16 ports per slot. I know this coz the CHIPCOM man tells me so.

I then select them all and display counters in a table. ALL counters returned
are zero! Admittedly not every slot is populated but on one I am looking at
13 are, with lots of activity.

Has anyone had any success at getting counters/statistics from the hub?

This is going to be demonstrated to customers next week so I would like to
be able to do more than just show them a long list of interfaces.

Thanks for any help,
Stuart

I have been able to get counter values from only one of the interfaces
in the Chipcom ONLINE concentrator. (This may be because our
concentrator does not handle any real traffic).

But how do you know which interfaces and tables to look at. There
    are lots when you look.

2288.4Some arithmetics are needed.KETJE::PACCOMon Feb 10 1992 18:0134
    Rob,

To get valid information from the online you have to do the following:

Remember that the online concentrator has a capacity of 17 "slots".
First, you have to find out which module type stays in which slot. To do so
type SHOW SNMP chipcom CHIPCOM CHIPHUB CHIPMODTABLE * CHIPMODCLASS.
This will give you for each slot ("table") the type ("Class") of the
    module. (e.g. Table 7 has a ChipModClass = 3)

Then, armed with this, the only way to get useful information out of the
interface is if and only if you select the ChipModClass corresponding
with the Class number you found: "CHIPMODCLASS03TABLE" in our case.
SHOW SNMP chipcom CHIPCOM CHIPHUB CHIPMODCLASS03TABLE 7 ALL CHAR

Note that if the table had another class, you have to select the
corresponding ChipModClassxxTable first, before You can specify the
table ID (7 in our case).

Finally you would like to know the port attributes of e.g the 4th port
of the card in slot 7.

Because there are 6 slots preceding slot 7, and because each slot has a
capacity of maximum 16 ports, your port offset will be 6*16=96. Now
    for the 4th port of slot 7: 6*16+4 = 100. So selecting PortTable 100
will direct you to the characteristics of port 7.4. Do still not forget
you are staying in class 3, therefore you have to type:
SHOW SNMP chipcom CHIPCOM CHIPHUB CHIPMODCLASS03PORTTABLE 100 ALL CHAR

Similar behaviour has to be followed in the other groups. THE
INTERFACE CLASS IS THE KEY FOR YOUR INQUIRIES.

    Regards,
    Dominique.
