2229.0. ""FIND", IMPM Window repaints, & list box probles" by CUJO::HILL (Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident) Thu Jan 30 1992 15:04

Will there be fixes for the following in V1.2 :

    1. When doing a "FIND" in the IMPM, the entity-to-find is not always
centered in the map window, and it is never SELECTED.

    2. The Map Window continually repaints and over-lays the Operations
windows when doing "SHOW/ENABLE/..." commands. On two occasions
I have had the Map Window repaint and over-lay a non-MCC window
in which I was typing commands.

    3. The operations "list box" snapping back to its initial position
each time is a really annoying irritant. Can this be fixed?

I strongly concur on this. I listed it as Problem #1 in note 2025.0,
but it still has not been answered. I think, it got lost among
        responses to the other problems.

Can the IMPM folks please respond to this before a QAR is entered ?

2229.2Put on the "must do" listHAZARD::BAKERPaul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311Sat Feb 01 1992 07:3614
These problems have been reported in this conference many times in one form
or another. However, nobody has ever posted a reply committing that they
will be fixed.

Fixing these UI problems should be treated as a Priority 1 QAR, not ignored.

Can someone please commit to getting these fixed before FCS. If we can't get
a smart User Interface, what chance have we got selling DECmcc against the
current competition?

Paul.

I will have someone look at whats involved, but I can't guaranty it
will be fixed. Time to market was is a higher priority than
    this.

Dan, give me a call to discuss this futher. I need more info on
exactly what the user flow is. You know my number.

This was considered a LOW priority (see note 895.1) but due to the high
number of requests for it to be fixed, It will be in v1.2.

They are not being ignored, they are being deferred. There just isn't
enough time to fix everything. Let me be real clear about this. The
iconic map schedule is (believe it or not) date driven, not functionality
driven. Also, many hooks had to be built into the code to make it
extensible for internal and external groups. This was at the expense of
a more usable interface.

I am painfully aware of the iconic map's usability problems. I am
also aware of commitments that DEC has made with internal and
external groups. Balancing the two is difficult at best.

The operations list box problem will be fixed but I can't guaranty
that the others will be. Speak with John {BSYBEE:}Egolf or
Anne {TOOK::}Pelagatti if you feel that it is worth slipping the
FCS date to fix specific problems.
