2201.0. "slow performance" by VAOU02::LAM () Mon Jan 27 1992 21:17

My customer, BC Telephone, has been field-testing DECmcc on his
DS5000/200 with 48 Mb memory and 128 Mb swap. However, even with
that kind of horsepower, the performance is VERY SLOW. Most of the
time DECmcc is hogging 90+ % of the CPU and all the memory.
Is this expected for the field test? Can we see some performance
enhancement coming? The customer is also looking at HP OpenView
on the HP 720 in the next room, it is FAST.
    Could somebody verify?
    Thanks for the help.

speed, performance, cpu, and memory are the top issues. We are
working them as we speak. For the kind of cpu utilization you are
stating, they must be running rules and notification. I would be
curious as to how many of each, as well as if they have any event
    logging enabled.

Also post the number of entities registered, number of entities in
the domains you are trying to process, and the approx mix of class
    of entities (i.e. snmp, node4, bridge/station, etc).

No. I haven't done anything with rules and notification at all. I've
added 257 SNMP entities in 7 domains (exactly as generated by
autoconfiguration). No other entities of any type.

Then the kind of performance you're seeing is WAY out of line! I've got a
couple of DS5000-200s w/less memory than yours and I don't have any major
complaints.

I suspect you've got some sort of fundamental system tuning/configuration
problem... I will defer to you to deliver more details and other, more
U*x-literate types to help you figure it out.

I repeat: I (personally) don't think your problem is DECmcc.
