2190.0. "MCCELM010 ACCVIO problem" by ARRODS::GILLJ (John, DTN 847-5849) Fri Jan 24 1992 13:53

I have been implementing DECmcc-BMS, TCP-IP AM and ELMS AM for a
customer. All installations have progressed fine with the exception of
    the ELMS-AM.

I have selected the option to update the dictionary, build the parse
table and update the help files. Everything progresses fine until the
table build. I get the following...

    Processing entity 1
    Processing entity 1 1
              .
              .
              .
    Processing entity 330
    SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=04,
    virtual address=00000008, PC=001FDDF2, PSL=03C00000

    NONAME-F-NOMSG, message number 032BD0A2

    SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00,
    virtual address=0000000A, PC=0000000A, PSL=0000000F

When investigating the problem I noticed that the license I was using
was for ELMS and that the system did not have the DECMCC-ELM-AM-V or
    DECMCC-ELM-FM-V licenses installed.

We plan to get hold of the correct licenses and install them.

Is my problem directly related to the licensing or are there other
things I need to look into.

    Any help appreciated,

    John

2190.1Are you running V1.1?TOOK::MINTZErik Mintz, DECmcc DevelopmentFri Jan 24 1992 14:383
A license problem should not result in a Access violation.
Is this BMS V1.1 you are using?

    Yes,

    I am using BMS V1.1.

do you have ptb running while some one is trying to run DECmcc
    at the same time?

did you happen to take a look at your free memory (sho mem) before
    it crashed?

How long had ptb been running before it crashed? had it slowed
    down before crashing?

    >> do you have ptb running while some one is trying to run DECmcc
    >> at the same time?

DECmcc was running during the early part of the installation, but was
not running while the ptb was in operation.

    >> did you happen to take a look at your free memory (sho mem) before
    >> it crashed?

Unfortunately no, I ran the ptb overnight.

    >> How long had ptb been running before it crashed? had it slowed
    >> down before crashing?

I cannot say for certain, but it had got as far as processing entity
330 so I assume it must have almost complete.

As I said I ran the ptb overnight. When I returned there was a message
saying that the page file had become badly fragmented during the
    installation.

I have upgraded the licence, increased the size of my pagefile and am
    running the installation again.

The machine that I am installing the product on has only 8MB memory,
there will be an upgrade to the memory but in order to complete an
acceptance test for the network I need to install DECmcc-ELM-AM on this
    machine.

Before installing the ELMS AM I installed the TCP-IP AM - the ptb
operation for this AM went smoothly. No pagefile fragmentation
problems and no access violation problems.

I will report any progress with the installation I am currently
attempting. If anyone has further thoughts please feel free...

    Thanks,

    John

2190.5copy the .bpt if you have to from someone elseTOOK::CALLANDERMCC = My Constant CompanionFri Jan 31 1992 12:085
if there is some one locally with the same set of AMS and version
just copy their ptb if you can't get it to work.8MB is definitly
not enough to successfully run mcc.

2190.6Check process and system quotasTOOK::R_SPENCENets don't fail me now...Mon Feb 03 1992 13:2112
    How big is your pagefile?

How big are the working sets for the process you are installing from?

I assume you read the release notes for sysgen and process quota
    requirements before installing?

    You might want to copy
NETS::USER$NETS:[mcc011.s-kit]AUDIT_MCC.COM and run it. You may
find that some quotas or parameters are too low.
