2115.0. "qar system doesn't work as advertised" by COL01::LUNT () Wed Jan 15 1992 08:01

    Hello,

    	Today Uwe Welzel and I logged into the QAR system to check it out
    and to see the status of QAR's. We had the following problems:

    	1. It was so slow it was pratically unusefull, but perhaps
           set host from Germany is the problem there.

    	2. We wanted to check out the status of QAR 1960(Graph problem).
           Using either Read number 1960 or Show number 1960 tells
           us that the QAR does not exist. The number is given
           in note 2057.

    	3. We wanted to enter a QAR of priority level 5 about
    documentation. The qestions asked were not what is documented
    in the manual that was sent us. Then after entering the editor,
    we couldn't type anything in, no control z, nothing. I finally
    had to CTR c and abort the connection to NACQAR.

    Are we using the system totally wrong, or what's up. We wanted
    to try the system out before letting our Customer have the manual and
    they had to enter in reports or such, just to make sure.

    Your qar was entered in the MCC_INTERNAL database. This is where we
    enter all qars that are from internal sites. Your qar has been
    answered, but not closed.

    Answer for QAR #01960:
    ------ --- --- -------
    This bug can not be reproduced on our systems here. It does occur on
    WRK4ME.
    Also saw an accvio pulling down an operation. The process quotas are
    lower than
    suggested in release notes and quotas in release notes are problably
    too low.

    A debug image fails with INSFMEM error. Insufficient dynamic memory.

    Investigation is continuing.

     question 3.

    NACQAR uses edt, you are entered using line mode. Type a "C" at the
    prompt to get into the keypad edittor. ^Z should work though. As to why
    it doesn't match the documentation, I will send that along (I never
    received any documentation so I have nothing to compare against).

2115.3Try include file under EDTTAEC::LAVILLATWed Jan 15 1992 11:5326
Re .0:

Just a comment on EDT : the NACQAR node when accessed from Europe is *very*
slow (especially if you use it the afternoon).

What we do here (Valbonne) to enter a QAR is :

	- we prepare the QAR text locally on our machines
	- connect to NACQAR
	- enter the QAR header informations
	- once under EDT :
	- we never do C (too slow)
	- but only type under the * prompt :
	     include file node"username passwd"::filenameofqartext.txt
	- and exit EDT via * exit

Proceeding this way you should not have too much problem.
I also recommend you use NACQAR only early the morning (we MCC people are
asleep...)

Regards.

Pierre.
