2038.0. "SHOW BRIDGE STATISTICS causing DECW$SERVER_0 process to grow and grow and ...." by LATACP::J_HASSENCAHL (CSC/Atlanta Network Support) Tue Jan 07 1992 14:10

Hello,

I have been involved in working a customer issue regarding a problem
with the DECW$SERVER_O process growing and growing its memory until it can go
no further. This has been reported by a customer while they have been looking
at bridge statistics.

Now for more details. The customer is using a VAXstation 4000-60 with a
LCG graphics controller, VMS v5.5, DECwindows Motify v1.0, and DECmcc v1.1 along
with the ELM AM. They are bringing up approximately six of these SHOW STATISTICS
displays via the DECwindows interface. The target/subject of this displays are
a couple of DECbridge 620's for starts.

Some of the questions that we have been asking ourselves have been is
this a possible problem with the interaction of the various DECwindows
components involved or perhaps a problem with DECmcc/ELMs. As you can see, we
have a few new/unknown things to work with.

Since the customer does have other types of VAXstations, we are
investigating having him try another hardware platform so as to isolate the
graphics controller possibilities.

Other things that have crossed our minds is in the area of the
interaction between v2/v3 DECwindows components to see if perhaps something is
going on in that regard.

According to the customer, this problem occurs when using bridges. We
are attempting to having him use something else such as a DECnet circuit/line
so as to possibly isolate things down to DECmcc itself versus the ELMS AM.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you,

John

Hello,

I forgot to mention that the customer is repeating the statistics
display every minute and using a duration of thirty seconds. I think that is
about all the detail that I can think of. If there is anything else needed,
please let me know.

Thank you,

John
