2033.0. "Fibornix MIB" by HGOVC::LEUNGWINGKIN () Tue Jan 07 1992 07:57

Hi,

Does anyone know whether our MSU can be used to manage the Fibronix FDDI
bridge (FX8210) via SNMP ? Where can we get their MIB info ?

We have a 2M project that the basic requirement is to manage the network
from a single NMS. The customer has already installed several Fibronix
FX8210 FDDI bridges so if our MSU or DECmcc cannot be used to manage
these existing Fibronix devices, we are out. We have contacted the local
Fibronix distributor and they refuse to pass us the MIB info. So please help.

It is very urgent. Thank a lot in advance.

Best regards,
Kin

That is very strange since almost all mibs are in the public domain
and available on the Internet. The question is do they have a private
mib extension, or have they just implemented MIB II ? They might also
have implemented the experimental FDDI mib (which is shipped with
	our kit).

You have to find out what exactly their agent supports. If it is MIB II
and the experimental FDDI mib, then you are all set. If they have their
own private extensions, then we need to get hold of their mib
definition which should be in the concise mib format (RFC 1212).

I guess what I am trying to get at is that both DECmcc and MSU should
be able to support the Fibronix FDDI bridges once you can get all the
	relevant information from them.

	Rahul.
