1931.0. "DECmcc and RS6000???" by KETJE::GORREMANS () Thu Dec 12 1991 08:14

    A potential customer for DECmcc asked a few questions that I really
    cannot answer, so does anyone have an inkling of what I can tell him?

    - Can one manage an RS6000 through DECmcc?

    	- by means of the SNMP module using TCP/IP?
    		What data can one see?
    		What parameters are configurable?

    	- TSSnet 2.1 allows to use DECnet on the RS6000.
    		What is the functionality of DECmcc in this case?

    Thanks for any input,

1931.1What will the RS6000 let us do?TOOK::R_SPENCENets don't fail me now...Thu Dec 12 1991 17:5913
    The access via SNMP depends on the SNMP agent on the RS6000. If they
    have implimented only MIB II, then that's what you can manage. If they
    have a private extension, and it is in the standard format, then the
    extension could be added to DECmcc and the additional attributes
    managed.

    As far as the DECnet access is concerned, that will depend on the
    functions implimented in the NML agent on the RS6000.

    So, the bottom line is that the limits are derived from the
    capabilities of the agents on the RS6000 and not so much on DECmcc.
