SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

QMS is Digital's open queue management service. QMS provides a transactional &
distributed data manager that has been designed specifically for data queuing
operations. Applications can use QMS to achieve higher levels of performance,
availability & distributability.

QMS is based on a queuing data model and a queuing repository engine that has
been optimized for rapid insertion & deletion of ordered data queue elements.
QMS includes a programming interface for queuing operations; this NAS
interface will be proposed by Digital as an international standard.

QMS will be a member of the Network Application Support ("NAS") middleware
package. QMS will be used by layered products (ACMS, DECmessageQ, RTR, etc.),
ISVs and sophisticated MIS customers. QMS is also a part of Digital's work flow
management system, currently under development.

QMS V1.0 (June '92) will support VMS; OSF/1 support (client & server) is
planned for March '93.
