1839.0. "Multiple DECmcc Sessions?" by TROOA::BALDOCK (Chris Baldock) Thu Nov 21 1991 16:41

Is it possible to have more than one session of DECmcc (i.e. iconic
map) open? Our customer wants to install DECmcc on a VAXstation
4000/60, but be able to run it simultaneously from multiple
X-windows terminals located elsewhere in the network. As the
VAXstation is a single user system, is this possible? I know it
is possible to do it in a product like VCS as all sessions
interface with a single process on the VCS host system.

DECmcc doesn't have a problem with this. If the system has the
capacity, then it will work. Heck, even on my little 3100/30 I have
had a map on the local tube and set host in from elsewhere and put
up a map on the remote tube also.

Note that alarms running from a process will not have their state known
to decmcc's running in other processes.

As far as I know, a commercial policy forbids more than one interactive session
on a VAXstation. That means you are not allowed to sethost to a VAXstation from
an X terminal. Does anybody see any legitimate means to overcome this
limitation?

And anyway, on eiher VAX or VAXstation, has anybody ever tested the maximum
number of simultaneous sessions affordable (with either iconic map of
alphanumeric presentation) while maintaining the product performance at an
acceptable level? I would like to know how far one can go with various CPU
types and memory size.
