1834.0. "MCC 2.1/VMS 5.4, works on 4000-60 system?" by SCOBIE::JCAROW (OK...We'll try it...) Wed Nov 20 1991 16:39

    I am at a site running MCC v2.1 on a 3100, Vms V5.4.  The customer is a
    shared Netsupport Customer and I am a resident Customer Services Rep.
    The customer has a 4000-60 system which has a lot more horsepower than
    the 3100 we supplied. They would like to demo/benchmark MCC running on
    the faster box. I have heard that only VMS 5.5 can run on the 4000-60.
    This is not official. Does anyone know if we can rrun this version VMS
    and MCC on the faster box?

    Thanks in advance

    John Carow

    P.S. (I know we have a 4000 system here running version 5.4-2, is is
    possible I might only have to patch VMS to 5.4-2?)

1834.1Testing in Early DecemberBSYBEE::EGOLFJohn C. Egolf LKG2-2/T02 x226-7874Wed Nov 20 1991 17:3412
	We have DECmcc running on VMS 5.5

	We have scheduled time in the SQM lab to run DECmcc on a 4000
	model 60 and a 4000 VLC the first week of December. Due to
	time considerations and the configuration (ie. only 8 MB of
	memory :-( ), we will do limited testing and report the
	results. If anybody else has run DECmcc on either of the above
	configurations, PLEASE let me know and save us the time in
	checking it our. I'll send you a candy bar!

1834.2How about the VAX410ftHAZARD::BAKERPaul Baker, UK Product and Technology Group - 844 3311Mon Nov 25 1991 12:559
Will you also be testing on the 410ft system with its 4 Ethernet interfaces
spread over two systems, all doing exactly the same thing (we hope -)-)?

Customers are getting the idea that the system running their network (should I
say Enterprise?) management and main DNS server should be pretty reliable.
They now have got the chance to achieve this with the 410ft - let's make sure
mcc run on it without any undesireable features.

Paul.
1834.3DECmcc BMS V1.1 runs on the VAX 4000/VLCBSYBEE::EGOLFJohn C. Egolf LKG2-2/T02 x226-7874Tue Dec 03 1991 18:0055
Subj:	Testing DECmcc BMS V1.1 on the VAX 4000 VLC

	I had reserved time on two systems in the SQM lab, one is a VAX
	4000/60 and the other is a VAX 4000/VLC (very low cost).

	I have completed testing on the VAX 4000/VLC, due to network
	problems, testing on the VAX 4000/60 may not be do-able in the
	alotted time but I'm confident that the results of the 4000/VLC
	would be the same as the 4000/60.

Process:

   o	I copied the DECmcc V1.1 kit to node LCONIA, and installed it.

   o	I tried SHOW NODE4 LCONIA ALL ATTRIBUTES, it worked proving
	DECmcc was working (at least some of it).

   o	I installed DECdns V1.1 and ran the MCC_SETUP_DNS.COM routine
	to set up the DECdns directories, it worked.

   o	I did a REGISTER NODE4 .LCONIA SYN LCONIA, it worked and proved
	that DECmcc and DECdns worked together.

   o	I created a domain and added LCONIA as a domain member.

   o	I created an alarm rule that sent mail upon the alarm firing.
	It *didn't* work. VAX/VMS V5.5 has made changes to the Job
	Batch Control. Alarm rules with no batch job submission worked
	fine.

   o	I installed UCX V1.3.

   o	I installed the DECmcc TCP/IP SNMP AM V1.1

   o	I did a SHOW SNMP konahi.zko.dec.com ALL ATTRIB, it worked.

   o	I registered the snmp host.

   o	I brought up the Iconic Map PM, selected node4 LCONIA and did a
	show counters.

Conclusion:

	Although this has been limited testing, I feel that DECmcc V1.1
	does run on the VAX 4000/VLC and would probably run on the VAX
	4000/60. It would appear that DECdns and UCX also work. The
	problem found in the ALARMS FM has been fixed in the V1.2
	system and a patch is being developed for distribution to
	VAX/VMS V5.5 installations upon request.

	Regards,
