1708.0. "Two MCC directors and Two DNS server sharing same name space" by VIDOAN::DOAN (EIS/Network Consulting Group of the 90's) Thu Oct 24 1991 15:07

Hi,

I have been trying to get a clear answer of how to set up an environment
        as shown below,

           --------- ---------
	   | MCC_1 | | MCC_2 |
           ----+---- ----+---- Extended-LAN
	-------|----------------|------|-----------------|------------------
                                    ---+---- ---+-------
                                    |DNS_1 | | DNS_2 |
                                    -------- -----------

	where:

		MCC_1: system #1 running MCC

                MCC_2: system #2 running MCC

                DNS_1: DNS server 1 ( with read_only replicas DNS_2_CH)

                DNS_2: DNS server 2 ( with read_only replicas DNS_1_CH

	The requirements:

	1. For MCC_1 only use DNS_1 server to REGISTER entities managed by MCC_1

	2. For MCC_2 only use DNS_2 server to REGISTER entities managed by MCC_2

	3. In the event of DNS_1 server died, MCC_1 can QUERY for entities
managed by MCC_1 from DNS_2 server using the read-only replicas

	4. In the event of DNS_2 server died, MCC_2 can QUERY for entities
managed by MCC_2 from DNS_1 server using the read-only replicas.

	5. Only MCC_1 can DEREGISTER entities that were REGISTERED by it.The same
           apply to MCC_2.

	The questions:

	1. How can you set up all the MCC directories in this environment to meet
           the requirements. ?

	2. How do you set up such that the backtranslation tables ?

	3. What about set up access control of the DNS directories ?
Thank you for any help. I have read all the notes regarding setting up
DNS for DECmcc, but stil can't get a straight answer for this. This is
a real problem because many of our customers would like to do this.

	Thank you for any help

We have discussed this off line.

The simple answer is that you can't do it in the current version.

Generally, the current version uses DNS as a global store and doesn't
have provisions (that is, it doesn't do anything special in DNS) to
have some entities on one clearinghouse vs another.
