1705.0. "Alarms Attribute Definition" by MAIL::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217) Thu Oct 24 1991 12:55

When creating alarms from the iconic map interface one must enter the specific
attribute for the respective alarm classification.

At the attribute entry field if you click on MB2 it gives you some choices to
"expand field", "clear field", etc. The current implementation of MCC V1.1
does not have any attribute data in the "expand field" selection by default.
However, within this "expand field" open window you can specifiy an attribute,
and upon returning to the main alarms definition window, the attribute is
shown on the respective line.

Is there a way to retain the attributes that you define in the "expand field"
window in V1.1?

I've tried, and cann't find a combination that works.

If one could enter attributes just once, it would certainly make alarm
definition much less painless. If this is'nt supported, then what is the
purpose of the "expand Field" window for attributes?

Expand field displays different information depending on the datatype of the
field you are expanding. If it is a string datatype, the expansion allows you
to type in more characters. If the datatype is set of, it allows you to add
another of the same datatype to the set of. If the datatype is enumeration,
expand field displays all of the enumerated values and you can select from
that list.

That is its purpose. I am not sure what you are asking for in .0.

re .-1

To try to be more specific, I'll use an example from the Alarms FM Use
manual.

Let's say that I want to define a comparison rule as shown on p3-3. There
are datatypes (?) that must be included. In the documentation it looks like:

        COMPARISON_RULE_FORMAT_2
           Entity NODE4 ROME
           Attribute Name MAXIMUM ADDRESS
           Relational Operator GT
           Comparison Value 255

At the "Attribute Name" field (datatype?) if I click MB2 and pull down the
"Expand Field" function a small window opens up, but there are no entries
for "attribute Name" in this Expand Field window. However, I can enter the
atribute "MAXIMUM ADDRESS" in this window and when I click on "OK",
"MAXIMUM ADDRESS" is entered into the Attribute Name field.

This would be great if I were able to build my own expanded list of
Attribute Names as I am setting up alarm rule definitions. When I get to
the attribute name field, I could just click on "Expand" and pull down an
attribute name already defined in the expanded list, or add a new one if a
particular attribute name is not yet entered. This is much the same way
one selects a Relational Operator from the expanded list.

So, given the above scenario, is it possible to retain the attribute names
defined in the "expand" field that I am unaware of?

If not, how is the "Expand" function designed to be used?

Is there any additional functionality being added around this in the near
future?

Thanks for the feed-back.

not yet, but sounds nice for a future.... (along with actually
listing the attributes for the specified entity in the expand box)
