1634.0. "Ada and/or TAE+ help" by LEVERS::STRINGER () Thu Oct 10 1991 12:23

I have a customer who has a requirement to use TAE+ (thier standard for
computer user presentation interface). They want to change the PM of
DECmcc v1.2ft, PM (presentation module) to use TAE+ and not DECwindows
or Motif. Thier software development is planning to use Ada as the
linkage. But they have some problems in understanding how to proceed.
I have no understanding of Ada and TAE+. Is there anyone who could help
me with understanding how to replace our curent PM offerring with other
types presentation managers. If you understand this question below or
have knowledge of TAE+ and can explain it to me, I'll pass the information
    back to the customer.

Question asked by the customer's software engineer.

How is the elaboration of Ada Packages applied when the main
process is not an Ada Procedure?

I am no more knowledgable then you regarding what they are asking, but
I have a few other questions that might help me understand what they
mean.

Is TAE+ a window manager like decwindows or motif? Or, is it more like
DECforms which provides a "style" for window formats, but not a manager.
If it is like DECforms then they would need to write their own PM to
do that, or to add an enrollable PM application into MCC (not doable
before V1.2). If on the other hand it is a window manager like
decwindows or motif then the question is, is the ada linkage supposed
to be used to replace the decwindows/x-windows libraries (the libraries
that provide the low level control routines for actually managing the display
and the widgets presented on it).
