1587.0. "SNMP Agent on PC?" by PADIS2::PERIE () Thu Oct 03 1991 08:40

    In a configuration with PC and Ultrix systems connected on Ethernet
    and a TCP/IP network with Pathworks (for PC and for Ultrix) , does
    the PC support an SNMP Agent ?

    The customer would like to manage PCs from a unique station .
    Thanks.
                                      Isabelle.

1587.1Microsoft has a LANmanager MIB & Agent in betaMCDOUG::MCPHERSONi'm only 5 foot one...Thu Oct 03 1991 11:4226

    I'm working with a beta version of Microsoft's SNMP agent for their
    LANmanager server. I installed it on an OS/2 PC with our Pathworks
    server software (our OEM'ed LANmanager implementation) using a TCP/IP
    stack. We'll be showing it at InterOp 91 as part of the DECmcc demo
    (showing attributes of the Pathworks system in the booth that's on the
    Token Ring network...)

    After some hassling with their LANmanager MIB, we were able to load it
    into our VMS DECmcc system (using the 1.1 SNMP AM & crank) and do
    *some* management of the LANmanager server in a TCP/IP environment.
    Note that I said *some*. This _is_ a beta release and Microsoft
    claims that there are some interoperability problems between their
    agent and 3Com's TCP/IP stack (which we are using in the Pathworks
    software. (E.g. we can't get some some attributes back that we
    should be able to, etc.)

    I haven't done exhaustive testing, and I wouuld like to be able to
    install Microsoft's TCP/IP stack to see if it really makes a
    difference.
