1533.0. "ELM_AM Rules are functioning, but status is "disabled"" by CUJO::HILL (Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident) Fri Sep 20 1991 03:31

    I am using ELM_AM V1.0 and DECmcc V1.1 and have noticed a slight
    problem. I have submitted a BATCH_ENABLE_RULES.COM and then started
    DECmcc ICONIC MAP PM to watch for alarms firing on bridges. There are
    124 Bridge Alarm Rules in this procedure.

    Just to be sure everything is OK, I select FILE-->VIEW-->RULE from the
    pulldown menu. I select a rule and SHOW STATUS. The status on all of
    my rules is "Disabled"; however, when I get back to the map, I notice
    that the alarms are firing as the error conditions are detected.

    Everything works well, and I have noticed some interesting trends on
    our network, but I believe this is a bug in the ELM_AM.

1533.1not a bug in the ELM_AMBSYBEE::EGOLFJohn C. Egolf LKG2-2/T02 x226-7874Fri Sep 20 1991 10:5414
	Its not a bug in the ELM_AM, its a "bug" in the DECmcc system.

	Unfortunately, you can ONLY get the actual (true) Alarm Status
	from the process in which it was enabled. The current state
	isn't stored in the MIR, its stored in the process (memory).

	If you happen to have a workstation, I'd suggest setting a
	window aside to execute the BATCH_ENABLE_RULES.COM instead of
	using batch. You then could use that window to check on alarm
	status. When not in use, make it an icon.

	Yes, we plan to fix this problem.

1533.2Will the fix be in V1.2?CUJO::HILLDan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer ResidentMon Sep 30 1991 00:095

1533.3we are working on an answer to when?TOOK::CALLANDERMCC = My Constant CompanionThu Oct 17 1991 19:395
The question requires a "good" answer but at this point in time, without
a reasonable amount of time to design it correctly we could potentially
make the situation worse. As soon as we go to field test more investigation
into this areas will be done. Until then an answer really ins't possible.
We would all love it yesterday.
