1487.0. "ELM AM and DECbridges 90" by MAYDAY::ANDRADE (The sentinel (.)(.)) Thu Sep 12 1991 08:52

Will the ELM AM, give MCC access to DECbridges 90 ?

A customer has requested this. As he wants to use DECmcc to manage
    all his DECbridges.

First: DECmcc BMS is included in DECmcc SMS and DECmcc EMS.

DECmcc ELM V1.0 is a package, which layers on DECmcc V1.1 (Director/BMS),
consisting of: ----

	- New/improved Bridge AM V1.2*
	- Concentrator AM
	- Alarms FM
	- Performance Analyser PM

The Bridge AM that ships as part of DECmcc V1.1 BMS supported: LAN Bridge 100,
LAN Bridge 150, RBMS portion of LTM-Listener, and LAN Bridge 200.

The Bridge AM that shipped with DECmcc ELM V1.0 supports everything that
Bridge AM V1.1 did, plus the DECbridge 500 series and DECbridge 600 series
Ethernet/FDDI bridges.

DECmcc Bridge AM V1.2.1, which will layer on DECmcc V1.2 (but NOT be part
of DECmcc V1.2 BMS) will run on VAX/VMS plus MIPS/ULTRIX and fix any
problems with the "ELM" version.

Now onto your real question :-)

We had hoped to support DECbridge 90 in the Bridge AM V1.2.1. This is
proving "difficult" given the fact that the RBMS firmware for DEWGB is
not ready yet, and function (some say code) freeze for the Bridge AM
  occurs within the next week.

Any Bridge AM support for the short-term would have to be added during
  External Field Test. This assumes:

	1. The DECbridge 90 RBMS firmware is completed SOON.
	2. Support for DECbridge 90 is deemed sufficiently important
	   to force in this round.

Otherwise it'll be done "next time"...

Not very definitive answers, but the best I can do at the moment.
