1325.0. "Can't register CHIPCOM " by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Fri Aug 09 1991 10:17

Hello,

I've just installed SNMP AM V1.2 EFT. But I can't register a CHIPCOM Online
Concentrator as an SNMP node. I ve done the following:

UCX> set host chipcom....../addr=....../synon=......
UCX> loop chipcom
%UCX-I-LOOPACT, CHIPCOM is alive

If I want register the IP node "chipcom" I get the message "No response from
entity".

Does somebody know what I'vo done wrong. We have CHIPCOM management module V1.2

	Check if your node is registered under a community name on the
	Chipcom concentrator. To do this you need to log in at the Chipcom
	concen. console and at the ONLINE> prompt issue the following
	command
                 ONLINE> show community

        The agent will respond to request for values of SNMP objects from
        a particular node, only if that node is registered under one of the
        community names. One could make things easier by setting up world-wide
        read access under the community name "public".

1325.3having same problem with CHIPCOM v2.0 cardARRODS::GILLJJohn, DTN 847-5849Wed Sep 11 1991 17:4225
    I am having the same problem as Roland in .0

    My Chipcom hub has a network management v2.0 card which supports SNMP.

    I can do a LOOP CHIPCOM and the hub shows as "alive"

    If I do a show community at the "ONLINE>" prompt on the Chipcom Hub
    there are three entries.

    CHIPCOM address ***.***.***.*** access read-write
    CHIPCOM address 16.182.32.252   access trap
    ANGLE address 16.182.32.63      access all

    The internet address of the hub is 16.182.32.252, my host's internet
    address is 16.182.32.63.

    The MCC error message I get is "No response from entity"

    But I can do a UCX "Loop" to the hub, and can manage a PC and Vitalink
    bridge that connect through the HUB.

    Any help appreciated

	Here CHIPCOM is the host name of the hub.

> If I do a show community at the "ONLINE>" prompt on the Chipcom Hub
>    there are three entries.

>    CHIPCOM address ***.***.***.*** access read-write

> ANGLE address 16.182.32.63 access all

	Here CHIPCOM is a community name? Does an address of ***.***.***.***
	mean any IP address?

	You need to issue an mcc command using the "by password" qualifier
	containing a community name that will work. Like

		mcc> show snmp CHIPCOM all char, by password = "CHIPCOM".

	What exact commands are you executing?
1325.5Community name public does the trickARRODS::GILLJJohn, DTN 847-5849Thu Sep 12 1991 13:2712

    Yes CHIPCOM is a community name.

    I have tried various varieties of community names in the chipcom hub.
    Inputing the Network Management Host name and Hub name (allowing
    "ACCESS ALL") would not allow the network management station access
    the HUB.

    I then input "public" as a community name giving it the IP address of
    my workstation and "ACCESS ALL". This works fine.
