893.0. "SUGGESTION: de-install MCC when startup/install fail" by TENERE::LAVILLAT () Wed Apr 10 1991 07:26

Since a few month we have more and more problems with MCC on our cluster,
especially when using IMPM.

The reason for this seems to be that our system is a bit under-sized for
the use of MCC, and so that often the startup of MCC does not complete
well for such or such reason (like not enough GBLPAGES or GBLSECTS) and
because nobody cares to look at the startup log, nobody knows that there
is a problem with MCC.

I think it would be very useful that you improve your startup or ivp
procedures so that whenever the installation or startup of MCC is not
correct you de-install something to prevent MCC to be run.

This would prevent the users to run MCC and have lots of exotic messages such
as : Bad ILV mode (see note 877), %MCC-E-DNS specified class is inconsistent
with..., %MCC-E-INVENTITY Invalid Entity Identifier, %SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO access
violation address 000000A and so on, a set of messages that we get we something
went wrong during installation and disappear sometimes after a system reboot.

Best Regards

Pierre.

It can happen, yes or you may have another error message depending on the
weather, your MCC_TDF logical value, and the number of replicas you have on
your DNS clearinghouse ^).

I suggest you *first* carefully re-read the SRM, the MM programming guide, the
BMS, DIR, TK, DECNET_AM, SNSMP_AM,... release notes, the DNS installation guide
where you surely will find useful information concerning your problem.

Good luck

Pierre.
