812.0. "system bad params value error" by TKOV51::KAMEDA (SE/DSC/ACT KAMEDA SANAE (EX.8681-7232)) Tue Mar 19 1991 10:34

After installation of MCCBMS011 pre-SSB kit from 5-Feb, or the SSB kits
from 7-Mar, I can't invoke the DECmcc with the iconic map interface.

When I run " $manage/ent/int=decw" , the following error occurs.

[_XInputArrival-input buffer pointer not empty during prosessing]
 [ -status:2 flags:0 StopDepth:0]
 % SYSTEM-F-badparam, bad parameter value

This is the same error message in the release notes (2.1.2 Restrictions),
so I increased PQL_MASTLM to 600 or upper value but the result is the same.

I success to invoke every several times, so it seems to be the tuning problem.
I checked and changed some SYSGEN params( GBLSECTION,GBLPAGES,VIRTUALPAGECNT
etc.) and UAF quota( WSEXTENT,ASTLM etc.) seems to be concerned,
 but the same error occures.

Are there any other params to be checked in addition to PQL_MASTLM ?
 Please advise me.

 Thanks,
 Sanae

Sanae,

We have seen this problem from time to time and have yet to completely
solve it. Does this happen on all systems on which you run or have you
only tried it on only one?

We will keep working on it and let you know of any progress.

I'm sorry to be late to reply.
I took this week to solve some newtork trouble in ACT and for evaluation
 some new Japanese network products.

I explain more about error,

	(1) When I use the FT version on VMS5.3 , this errors didn't occur.
After I installed the pre-SSB kits( or SSB-kits) on VMS 5.4 ( or
	    VMS5.3), this errors occur.
The error message is the same in the release notes,
	    but the timing is different.

        (2) Our system is Japanese-VMS, so I set to start the original VMS and
invoke from DECterm ( usually we use JDECterm.),
but the result was the same.

	(3) After I wrote this topic, I received mail from Carl Silva-san and
he showed me his system parameters and UAF quota.
So I changed some system parameters and UAF quota,
but the result was the same.

	(4) Carl-san advised me to reinstall.
So, I reinstalled the DNS & the MCCBMS(SSB kits) to the other system
(JVMS 5.3-1 and some small products are installed).

The times that I success /failed (to invoke) were turned.
( I failed to invoke every several times).
I only changed UAF quota (as release notes described) for this
	    system.

        (5) I will ask to other site in JAPAN to version up to SSB kits
And I will continue to ckeck the first trouble system in parallel.
( Now I don't startup the other products for the first system too.)

	Regards,
	Sanae

Any updates?

Judging from the replies, it seems that there are some system tuning issues.
Would someone please let me know a set of tricks, if any, to avoid the bad
parameter problem.

I suggest you use the MCC_AUDIT.COM procedure , mentioned in note 1255.
This checks all your system parameters.

Actually it is currently named AUDIT_MCC.COM but that's a nit.

Another thing to check is if all the files have appropriate protections
on them. Perhaps one or more of the sharable files are protected
    against the user?
