776.0. "Looking for SYSTEM REFERENCE Manual documentation" by SICKO::FRAZER (Vision operates on many levels...) Thu Mar 07 1991 17:01

    Well, since November was the last new Documentation related note, I
    guess I'll get the ball rolling again...

    After copying several of the documents from

    WORDY::USER$657:[PUBLIC.NMS]

    I found that the DECmcc System Reference Manual which is referenced
    in both the Developer's Toolkit Reference and the Management Module
    Programming documents did not seem to be available. Am I just not
    reading what is in front of my eyes or is this document located
    elsewhere?

    Also, and I'll admit that this is just a nit, would it be possible
    to create the postscript files so that the appropriate blank pages
    are included? This way, when I print the files out two sided, my
    chapters always start on the right hand side, etc. It's a lot easier
    than printing out a one sided copy, inserting blank pages, and then
    photocopying onto two sides.

    Thanks in advance,

    The _System Reference Manual_ is not available on-line.
    (At 1,000+ pages, perhaps it's just as well 8^)

    As for inserted blank pages, for the user documentation, at least, I
    claim that's all been done. If you see exceptions, please send me
    mail.

776.2Are you doing bookreader docs ?MARVIN::WARWICKTrevor WarwickSun Mar 10 1991 10:045

    I would submit that because it is 1,000 pages+, it **should** be
    online, but as a Bookreader file, rather than a Postscript file.

776.3Now for the stupid question: Why?VISA::CHURCHDave Church, CT Eng. Europe/ValbonneMon Mar 11 1991 06:257

    May seem a stupid question by why is it only available in "paper" form?

    Just think about all those poor trees, now if only we could get it in
    Bookreader format! Wouldn't it save Digital money as well?

	The SRM was done using LaTex to its fullest extent. There
	hasn't been any Latex to Bookreader conversion tools available.
	We are in the process of getting all the user Docs (currently
	in Interleaf) and the SRM (LaTex) and the MRMs (LaTex - I
	think) into Bookreader format for V1.2 of the product.

	Look, we're all out to save the planet. This is a discussion
	of DECmcc, not the enviroment. The topic of Bookreader is
	through out this conference. We've heard you and we are doing
	something about it, but not at the expense of having our
	competition take market share away from us by delivering better
	products.

	End of discussion.
