580.0. "how is the WITH qualifier specified in the in_entity parm" by SMAUG::DPETERSON () Wed Dec 26 1990 20:20

Page 62 of DECmcc SRM ver 1.1 suggests that the with qualifier is
    specified in the in_entity parameter.
I was under the impression that the PM performed all "with"
    filtering. Is this incorrect?
If so what level of filtering can be specified. A single assertion, or
serveral joined by logical operators. What are the routines for
adding the "with" qualifiers to the in_entity parameters?

Is the intent that each module perform filtering if possible?

580.1PM handling of WITH is a stop-gap functionGOSTE::CALLANDERThu Dec 27 1990 18:1413

The SRM defines the architecture of MCC, which as you have noted,
is some times ahead of the implementation.

The PM processing of the WITH clause was done as a short term mechanism
so as to guarantee that all modules support the clause. It (to the
best of my knowledge) the intention that in a future, as yet
undetermined, release the WITH information would be passed down
to the xM for processing. Currently though, there are no mechanisms
    for doing this.

I hope this is planned fairly soon. The Phase V management models have been
designed with the knowledge that the WITH clause exists and I believe it
will become a very important and frequently used feature. Already,
OSIrouter problem solving is absolutely dependent on the WITH clause (it is
the only way in Phase V to find the load host's MOP client entry to check
the down-line load information). I expect it to find common use in Routing
(and Bridging, maybe) database operations soon.

The current MCC implementation (filtering performed in the PMs) will be
adequate for a while but the sooner the filter can be passed to the AM the
sooner the unnecessary network traffic can be eliminated.
