546.0. "Can't Save Iconic Map....EFT V1.1" by DUCAT2::64544::LICAUSE (Al Licause (338-5661)) Wed Dec 12 1990 19:29

I'm running V1.1 of EFT.

I did read note 511.1 and can now bring up the United_states map.

I created domain USA and when I show it's characteristics it exists
and it belongs to USER ID=LICAUSE and is in DIRECTORY=USER_DISK:[LICAUSE].

I did try copying MCC_MAPS:MCC_UNITED_STATES.DAT to both MCC$_USA.DAT
and several other variants including the 32 zeros as in 511.1.

One point of confusion I have is that it appears that in EFT, the only
place the software looks for the iconic maps now is in MCC_MAPS:.
Before we were told to place a copy of the map in our own directory.

Has this changed for EFT, such that the iconic map MUST reside in
MCC_MAPS and not your own directory(s)?

Now....don't stop there!

When I bring up the window interface and open domain USA, it brings up the
map, but positions a single domain called .DWO down near Hawaii and displays
the error message..."Entities found in the domain but not in the map file
were autoplaced".

Okay, so I remove this icon using the circle with single bar and reapply
the same icon and the same domain over in Delaware. Ok so far.

Then I pull down the menu under File and try to Save Map. This time I get the
error "Could not open the Map file for this domain". This is very repeateable!

I figured, maybe this is a misleading error and I don't have the proper
access control on the file/directory. So I specifically set protection to
RW for world on both the file MCC_MAPS:MCC$_USA.DAT and the MCC_MAPS
directory......same error message.

This function worked in IFT, when we had the map copies in our own
directories.

Why can't I save a map of the United States or other iconic map after
placing domain or other type of icons on them?

See note 524. This problem gave me the scenario you describe.

To fix it, edit sys$startup:mcc_logical_dir.com and change SYS$SYSDISK to
SYS$DISK and then execute the file.

You should be able to save the map now.

re .1

I had a similar problem. Digital delivered a VAXstation 3100
pre-configured with VMS 5.4. I had to edit the MCC_LOGICAL_DIR.COM
and replace the defination in the search list for MCC_MAPS with
    SYS$SYSDEVICE[] to cure this problem.

The original .COM file worked without modification on a VAXstation
    3500 running VMS 5.3.
