538.0. "Dont forget to check DNS..." by BARREL::LEMMON () Mon Dec 10 1990 19:17

The DNS namespace must be set up correctly for DECmcc to work
as documented. How it is set up is discussed in chapter 1,
pages 1-4 through 1-9 in the DECmcc Director and Basic Management
System Installation Guide.

When you encounter a problem with DECmcc, first verify
that your DNS namespace is set up correctly before posting a
QAR or note.

I have my own method for checking that gives me an indication that
everything is ok. I do the following:

	1. DECmcc has the following directories:

		$MCR DNS$CONTROL SHOW DIRE . KNOWN CHILD
                        MCC -+ -+
                        DNA_NODESYNONYM | DIR kit |
                        DNA_NODE | |
                        DNA_BACKTRANSLATION -+ | BMS KIT
                                                               |
                        MCC_UID |
                        MCC_BRIDGE_BACKTRANSLATION |
                        MCC_STATION_BACKTRANSLATION -+

	2. Make sure the file MCC_COMMON:MCC_DNS_SETUP.COM was executed to
set up the default directories for DECmcc. My method
for checking this is to see if the directory
DNA_BACKTRANSLATION has any children. The command is
MCR DNS$CONTROL SHOW DIR DNA_BACKTRANSLATION KNOWN CHILD

MCC_DNS_SETUP.COM will also ask if you want to create any
additional DNS directories. It is recommended that all
additional directories be created at this time. This is
because MCC_DNS_SETUP.COM also sets up the access
	   control to the directory.

	3. Make sure that there is a .MCC_<global-class>_BACKTRANSLATION
directory for the Access Modules you install in addition
to the ones on the kit.
