510.0. "ETHERnim database conversion in DECmcc V2.0" by CENPCS::BIRMINGHAM (G.W. Birmingham, Carolinas District) Tue Dec 04 1990 11:28

    	I have a customer who is using the DECmcc SMS V1.0 and has a
    question about the ETHERnim Database migration. Before he is willing to
    invest a large amount of time populating the ETHERnim database, he
    would like to know if DECmcc V2.0 will provide the means to migrate
    that information into the DECmcc database. Can anyone comment on this ?

    Many thanks in advance for your comments or pointers.

510.1Conversion utility on DECmcc BMS V1.0 kit.CHRISB::BRIENENDECmcc Bridge|Station Management.Tue Dec 04 1990 13:0617
The DECmcc BMS V1.0 kit has a utility that will "migrate" some of the
data in a NMCC/VAX ETHERnim node database to DECmcc.

The utility creates STATION and BRIDGE entities from the node database
and preserves Reference Data.

Details can be found in:

	1. Bridge Access Module Use book,
	    Appendix C "Shortcuts for Registering Bridges"

	2. Ethernet Access Module Use book,
	    page 1-14 "A Shortcut for Registering Stations"

Note that the utilities do NOT create/populate domains...

    Some months ago I started writing some code that loads all equipment from
    your ethernim database into decmcc , like nodes, bridges, servers, delnis,
    dereps, dempr's etc. AND it creates automatically a decmcc map showing
    all the segments and all the connections between the segments.
    However, when I tested this with V1.0 you could only store ~20 (I
    think) items in a domain so I didn't really finish it of.
    I also had some problems with the scaling of the map, since my utility
    did automatic scaling of the map (including the symbols for the
    equipment), while decmcc uses fixed sizes for the icons.

    When I have some time (and a machine), I might install V1.1 and finish
    it.

    Stay tuned

510.3EFT X1.1 supports 3000 domain members TOOK::A_MOOREThu Dec 20 1990 13:2912
Timo,

EFT X1.1 supports 3000 domain members.

A few hundred members is more practical. Seeing 3000 tiny dots is alot to
deal with visually.

The algorithm would need to chose some creteria to divide the network into
managable maps. Then each of the domains created can be members of a
hierarchy of domains.
