414.0. "CAN'T open domain created from last version." by GSFMCC::SYSTEM () Wed Oct 17 1990 18:21

Hi,

	I just installed the version X1.0.1 and try to open the domain which
	I have previously created and SAVED from the last version of the
	kit and I get this error, it seem like the DOMAIN portion of the DNS
	database has been cleared ???

	%MCC-E-NOATTRIB, NO SUCH DNS ATTRIBUTE

	It's been working fine sincethe last version.

Thanks

414.1What was your last MCC version?MAVIC::D_MOOREThu Oct 18 1990 13:3052
  You said that everything was fine with the last MCC version. What version
  was that?
		- MCC V1.0 UT1_0_1 EFT Update kit (July 3)
		- MCC V1.0 MCS_A kit (about the third week of Aug, I think)
		- MCC V1.0 SSB kit (early Sept)

  If you are going from the MCC V1.0 UT1_0_1 EFT Update kit to the MCC V1.1 IFT
  kit, then you will have to delete all domains, deregister all domain members,
  and reconstruct things with the IFT kit. Refer to note 352. The symptoms
  mentioned in that note are different, but if you are upgrading from UT1_0_1,
  the problem is the same.

re .1

I had read the release notes. However, I forgot to deregister the instances
and delete domain before installing the new Kit. Not a serious problem in
this case since I only had a domain with a few instances.

I did go to DNS$CONTROL and manually delete objects and links. But I could not
find anything related to DOMAIN in DNS.

Register/Deregister/Directory ARE working with the new kit

The title of the previous rely should have read, Does NOT look like DNS to me.

                          -< DOmains are objects too >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Domain are stored as objects in DNS name space. So if you have deleted
    all the previously registered objects (nodes, bridges, domains etc..)
    you are all set.

    By the by, this problem occurs only when you update from V1.0 EFT kit to
    V1.1 IFT. If you update from V10_MCS, or V10_SSB kit this should not
    cause problem.

414.2I have the latest version V1.1 IFT ( released 3rd week in Aug,. 1990 )GSFMCC::SYSTEMThu Oct 18 1990 14:0914
Hi,

	I'm upgrade to version X1.1 from V1.1 IFT ( released 3rd week of Aug. )
	Do I still have to delete all the registered domains and links ???

	Is there way to restored all the MCC$_*.DAT that I have saved. ?? Is this
	going to be changed again when we install the next release of the FT
	kit. ???

PS: It would be very nice to have a way to convert these files so that it
    reusable in the next release of the FT kits.

	The most you'll have to do is rename map files...if that.

414.4You will not lose your mapsMAVIC::D_MOOREFri Oct 19 1990 12:1114
  In going from an earlier version of MCC to V1.1 IFT (X1.1.0) you will not
  lose map files. It is the domain information which has to be recreated.
  If you have an MCC command file to create and populate your domains so that
  things are just as they were before, then you can open your (newly
  recreated) domain without touching the map file.

  The map file format has not changed with the MCC V1.1 IFT (X1.1.0) release
  and will not change for the upcoming EFT release. However, the map file name
  will change in order to be more consistent with the rest of MCC and to allow
  a map to be created for any domain that you can create. As Fred stated, this
  will involve only renaming files for the next release.
