I'm responding to a customer RFI on Network Management, and the following
questions arose

1. Are Pirelli with their FOCOM product being approached re writing Access
Modules

2. Are CASE being considered with their DCX products

3. Will DECmcc provide Cable Management functionality

   Thanks for your help

I have sent mail requesting answers to your questions. If you
do not get a response please send mail to either Earl Ingalls or
Hakim Dhilla from the strategic vendors program and product management
    respectively.

The following was supplied by Wally Matthews:

1.) I have no knowledge of anyone approaching Pirelli about AMs for
their FOCOM products. As of the FCS release of DECmcc sometime in
October, any user/vendor can develop and AM using the SRM, toolkit, and
DECmcc. There is no required business arrangement in such case. Pirelli
is not one of the strategic vendors identified by DEC to date that I
know of. That does not mean that they could not be discussing such an
arrangement with European Support Group in Valbonne. I would suggest
asking Marc Flauw if he is aware of any such contact.

2.) There were preliminary discussions with CASE and their still are
ongoing discussions with CASE of their becoming strategic vendors. They
were unwilling to commit development resources to DECmcc and we had to
focus on strategic vendors who would. We have limited resources to
support strategic vendors so we continue to focus on vendors who will
commit engineering resources for early market release.

3.) Cable Management is an active subject of discussion. Network
Management Engineering is looking for a development partner that is
interested in developing such a product. Network Management Engineering
has a limited budget and Cable Management is not high enough on our
priority list for us to do it this year. We recognize that it is an
important incremental capability for DECmcc in general and are looking
for organizations both inside and outside of DEC who are interested in
    developing it.

I have no knowledge either about contacts in Europe with Pirelli
concerning the development of an AM for their FOCOM products and
Pirelli is not either in our list of strategic vendors.

But as Wally mentions in his message, after DECmcc V1.0 FCS, any
user/vendor can develop AM for their product directly, without a
    specific business agreement.

    Best regards,

    Marc.
