| Chris,
There are couple of scenarios that I deal with differently here.
1. If you draw a line that:
A. does not start or end on an icon)
AND
B. has a grade either < 5% or > 95%
then the line is forced to be either vertical or horizontal
depending on the grade. If the grade is < 5% the line becomes
horizontal. If it is > 95% it becomes verticle.
2. If you draw a line fron an icon to an already existing line
segment I think I make the new line perpendicular to the existing
one. (I'm not sure about this one...I'll check.)
3. If you draw a line fron a line to an icon, the line ends up exactly
as you draw it.

| What additional capabilities are planned for maps, specifically
regarding the use of lines? Some nice-to-haves from my stand point
would be:
1. Multi-segment lines. Provide another icon in the toolbox
for multi-segment line -or- add a "shift-key" feature which
will allow you to draw multi-segment lines by pressing the
shift key. I would also like to be able to position the
"joints" of the multi-segment line to any locatio on the
map.
2. It would also be nice to change line width without having
to re-draw the line (maybe this is possible now and I just
haven't figured it out).
3. I have created DELNI icons and FIBER OPTIC CONCENTRATOR
icons (they are domains) which have port numbers associated
with them. I would like to be able to connect the line to
a specific "point" on the icon (not have it default to the
center) so that I can have graphic documentation of port
connections. I have worked around this by bringing the
line one pixel from the icon and it looks like it is
connected.
4. It would also be nice to have larger cross-hairs for use in
lining up connection points. The cross-hairs should be one
pixel wide and extend across the width and heighth of the
screen. This would allow one to select the exact pixel
location to connect a line for really fine-tuned graphic
documentation.
5. What about curved corners? What about arcs? OK, I'm
getting greedy. But the more functionality that is
provided, the more flexible the product, and the more
it is likely to be used by customers.
I only ask that you keep my requests in mind when adding new features
to the toolkit.
-Thanks,
Dan
