Route 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly don't know how anyone can do
that commute every day!!! (ex-hubby used to actually but he got up at 5:00
to avoid the traffic) Going to Burlington this morning wasn't too bad.
We got out at 3:30 so I figured it'd be smooth sailing home. NOT. Got
up as far as 62 and the break lights started. ;-(

That combined with a bunch of bombed errands and other mishaps made me VERY
glad to get home and be home for the night!!!

This brings up a whole 'nother topic --

A major compatibility test over the hot/cold issue: although I'm
always hot at work, I like to keep the temperature down enough to stay
"covered up" at night. Then there are those who like to "throw a leg
    out" over the sheets.

This topic could obviously go in many directions...like PJs vs. no-PJs,
flannel vs. silk... but I digress :)

resting my knee. (I overstressed it a couple of weeks ago doing too much on the
stairmaster.) I thought (and had not been told otherwise till now - glad I
called her!) that doing the treadmill would be ok cause I wasn't moving the knee
joint. I'm walking fast, not jogging so didn't the impact was enough to bother
it. Sigh. And of course it's my left knee and I have a 5-speed - thought of
trading cars with my sister but I'm not ready to go that far yet. ;-) Thank-
fully it's not at the pain stage, just the mild ache stage.

Skiing this weekend should be interesting - there will be Barb with her brand

Joyce, borrowed your idea and took my car in for an oil change.
Figured I'd better since it had been quite a few miles since the last
    one.

FYI.. found a place that *I* think is better than sliced bread!
It's on 101A in Nashua/Merrimack (never sure *where* the line is!)
across from UNH, called Greased Light'ning....

Wow.. was I impressed! For $25.95, they wash the outside of all
your windows, check all fluids, tire pressure, wipers, change the oil,
*and* VACUUM the car!! Heck, I'd have paid the $25.95 just for that!

In between oil changes, they will check everything for free, and
refill the windshield washer fluid for you as well as any empty 'jugs'
    in the car.

Everything's computerized, so they keep a record of when you're
there and what is done so you can keep track of it as well.

I *hate* not knowing all there is to know about my car... they
suggested some kind of teflon coating (an additional $9.95) to protect
the top of the engine on startups (when there's no oil in there...). I
said no only because I want to check it out first. I had never heard
    of it before.

    	just venting....

The Teflon coating (one brand is Slick-50) claims to help the engine. I
have used it in a number of vehicles and transmissions (they have a
version for that too) and 'seem' to have seen a difference.

The biggest difference I have observed came from using ONLY
    Castrol GTX motor oil.

Most fast lube places will do that - Jiffy Lube and so on. Some are
more reputable than others though. Have seen that place before but don't know
anything about it. Certainly is convenient.

I would steer clear (pun intended) of the Teflon additives for engine

build-up around the oil pump and warning that this could have become a
problem. I can't rate the reliability of this information -- it was
someone relating his experience on the Camaro internet mailing list.

FTC HITS PORNO PLAYERS

Yesterday, the Federal Trade Commission announced that it had won a federal
district court ordershutting down the sites using "david.exe" and "david7.exe"
to route consumers' Internet service through Moldova. The FTC has charged
Audiotex Connection, Inc., of Rockville Centre, New York, Promo Line, Inc., of
Dix Hills, New York, Anna M. Grella, president of Audiotex, WilliamGannon,
president of Promo Line, and David Zeng, the manager of both firms, with
fraudulently enticing consumers to download a program, ostensibly to view
pictures on a website, that actually placed international phone calls to
Moldova. According to the FTC, consumers remained connected to Moldova until
they turned their computers off, racking up huge phone bills at over $2 per
minute.

All of the defendants did business as Electronic Forms Management and used the
websites www.beavisbutthead.com, www.sexygirls.com, and www.1adult.com.
According to the FTC complaint, the defendants earn money through the scam by
being paid a portion of the revenue generate by each phone call through the
foreign telephone carrier. In addition to the restraining order, a federal judge
has frozen the defendants' assets pending a hearing on the case.

man to come look at my furnace and a $130 bill, my heat didn't come on this
morning. ARGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! This furnace is only 3.5 years old!!!!!! He
found 3 problems last weekend. What @#%#@$@ else could it be????? Well, at
least the flip the emergency switch trick worked this morning. It was all work-
ing fine till this morning - same as before - very flaky problem. ;-( Gotta
remember to bring a meter home with me tonight...Sigh - the joys of homeowner-

Hey Jan, friends through thick and thin, good times and bad,
    share and share alike..right?

The funny part is, when I call I'm on a first name basis with
the guys in service now. They all know my place, and talk about
Angeline. She's such a flirt when they come in, she cracks them
    up. Competition already!

I do have to teach her to watch for that "ring" though. She's
    been a bit indiscriminate. ;->

She knows how to pick 'em already too! She really didn't like
the refrigerator guy, and shied away from him. And didn't the
guy stand me up three nights in a row and never came back!!!!!

I'm going to start running my dates by her, like a meter! ;->

What an excellent idea! Can I borrow her next week? You could
accept a small donation to her college fund each time-- everyone
in Singles could use her service....we could have those "handy"
folks here build her a little box with a red light and a green
light-- and a couple of buttons.. bzzzzz for the red/bad one
and dingdingding for the green/oh-so-perfect one! Maybe even
a drive through at the front of your place--- and you could
skim a little of the top for furnace repair!

    what a plan!

Grrrrr.... Last May I got a ticket for "driving in the breakdown
lane" in Mass. (Coming off the lowell connector to Rt 3 north, but
	getting off at Rt 110)

I sent in the ticket saying I wanted to contest it. Well, I never
heard from them again, till the other night when I got
notification that my license is revoked in Mass and will be
revoked in NH in April. ARGH!! They were sending all the info
to my OLD address in Merrimack that I haven't lived at for over
3 years!! The Registry actually had the balls to tell me that
"You never filed a change of address form with us" DUUUUH! I
answered with "DUH! I'm not a Mass. resident! Must I notify
all 50 states, D.C, and Guam if I change my address?! That's
not my problem. That's what computers are for. It's not my
fault you had the wrong address. The correct address was in
the NH computer, on the back of my license, on the registration
for the vehicle and on the return envelope!!!" Needless to say,
he didn't help me much after that. :)

After playing catch-22 between the registry and the Lowell court,
(calling each 3-4 times with each pointing back to each other)
I finally gave in and called a friend in the State Police. Now
I have to sit tight till Monday when he makes some inquiries. Till
then, I can't drive in Mass which means I won't be able to go
to the airport to see my Mom when she arrives from Ireland Monday.
Hopefully I'll get the hearing I desire. I want to fight this
	ticket. It was wrong.

	DAMMIT...!!

Mike definitely fight it. About four years ago, I got a speeding ticket
in Mass, in which I live, and decided to contest it. I mailed it in
the next day to say, I was going to contest it. I thought if noththing
else I would delay the pain of paying and a surge charge. Thought nothing
about it till three months later when I got mail from the registry
stating that my right to drive in Mass was revoked since I had not
appeared for a summons. Called the registry and they sent me to the
Leominster court house. At the court house I lucky had a really
nice clerk. They gave me a copy of the envelope of my summons,
which had been returned by the Leominster Post Office as addressee
unknow, no forwarding address. Strange since I had lived there for
seven years and still live there. It took me two trips to the registry
in Fitchburg to straighten things. Plus the Fitchburg registry wanted
me to go into the registry in Boston, to ensure that it was cleaned up.
Some line about they could not guarantee the paperwork from Fitchburg
to Boston. When I went back to court two weeks later, I told my long
tale to the State Trooper. Even though I had been speeding, he felt I
had been aggravated enough, that he dismissed the case. It only cost
me a $10.00 for paper work.

Got to love the Registry and Post Office.
     that he

Is it really worth it to jump through hoops?

The only ticket I ever got in my life, was on Halloween at 11:00
pm - I was in a 45 mph zone and the cop was in a 35 mph zone. He
clocked me at 47. I argued I was in the 45 mph zone, he lectured me
there were kids out - it was Halloween (excuse me at 11:00 pm?!?!).

I fought the ticket - argued that I was in the 45 mph zone when he
clocked me - the clerk of courts said that when speed drops we don't
always slow down immediately and in the light of Christmas spirit and
the fact I had no other tickets, she suggested dropping it - he did.

    	I'd fight it...

Ah, yes, but usually the cost of a day off from work, the travel
and the frustration is far from the cost of a ticket. As to
the surcharge, that depends on your driving points, you may
get one or you may not.

And then there's the horror stories like Mike brought up,
where _they_ make the mistake and blame you for it...
            Ah, guilty until proven innocent.

Thanks for all the support. I definately plan to fight it. I
just lost my patience with the runaround with the registry
and the court. I don't like having to call my friends in the
State Police for stuff like this, but it just got to the point
where the Registry and the Court were pointing fingers and I
was stuck in the middle (getting ready to GIVE the finger to
	both!)

My trooper buddy will check on things first thing Monday
morning for me. What's pissing me off more is that it's now
a major hassle to get to Logan Monday afternoon and even worse,
get home from my Mom's place in Braintree Monday night. One thing
going for me, my friend trained the trooper that pulled
me over AND he works in the Lowell Court. I don't want him to
FIX the ticket, I just want to get the hearing due me. (Of which
I believe I will win once I show photo's of the area and the lack
of a breakdown lane to drive in)

What a friggin hassle. I feel guilty until I prove myself
	innocent.

I have fought many tickets and won every one from red light to speeding
and getting caught with radar. Only one took up a lot
of time and I actually did a trial with discovery and where I questioned
the police officer about the radar unit operation, etc. I still won.
It was actually fun. Although, now I'm almost a lawyer. I guess that
may have been why it was fun. I would fight the ticket and just keep

While the 2.2L Chryco had some problems, it was a very reliable
motor. The 2.2L turbo was the highest production turbo motor
in the world. I had 2, a '85 and a '87. I lost a headgasket on
the '87 with about 70K on it. I sold it with 145K on it. The '85
was sold at 85k. The key to turbos is meticulous maintenance,
especially with oil changes.

If you want to talk real junk, the 2.3l Merc/Ford turbos wouldn't
make a good boat anchor.

    Daryll,

Ya, I've met one guy that drag races 2.5 turbo's with intercoolers
on them. Theres a line that the computer senses boost pressure from,
and when you bleed off pressure from this line you can fool the
computer into thinking its getting less boost then it actually is. This
causes it to allow more exhaust gasses through the turbo, giving more
boost. Up to 26 lbs. Low 13's from a minivan...QUITE impressive.

Claims hes never blown a head gasket, and hes made over 500 1/4
runs....(note, do not try this with a stock fuel system...it will
lean out and blow head gaskets, pistons etc..)

On my way to school at U-Lowell last night, this woman was riding

2nd time at another traffic light (skidded and then jumped into another

3rd time when I was stopping at a crosswalk to allow a pedestrian

Subject: Problems With Lipstick (fwd)

>>Problems with Lipstick
>>----------------------
>>
>>A principal of a small middle school had a problem with a few of the older
>>girls starting to use lipstick. When applying it in the bathroom they
>>would then press their lips to the mirror and leave lip prints.
>>
>>Before it got out of hand he thought of a way to stop it. He gathered all
>>the girls together that wore lipstick and told them he wanted to meet with
>>them in the ladies room at 2pm. They gathered at 2pm and found the principal
>>and the school custodian waiting for them.
>>
>>The principal explained that it was becoming a problem for the custodian to
>>clean the mirror every night. He said he felt the ladies did not fully
>>understand just how much of a problem it was and he wanted them to witness
>>just how hard it was to clean. The custodian then demonstrated. He took a
>>long brush on a handle out of a box. He then dipped the brush in the
>>nearest toilet, moved to the mirror and proceeded to remove the lipstick.
>>
>>That was the last day the girls pressed their lips on the mirror.

So Joyce, what was our final choice? I believe it was Cheer. Pretty good
commercial for Cheer - fushia lipstick out of a white sweater!

Course the question could also be asked...hey Terry, what do you use to clean

Very, very unhappy with myself. I broke another Hard Rock
    shot glass last night.

For those who haven't seen it (which is most of you), I have
a small but precious collection of Hard Rock Hurricane glasses
and/or shot glasses. When people travel, I ask they bring one
home for me. (Joyce was good enough to get me one in Phoenix).

Well about a month ago, I broke my shot glass from London, England.
Last night, I broke the one from Paris, France. My two furthest ones

    Hi Joan,

Whatever works best is fine with me! I'd be interested in
either, the Hurricane glass or shot glass. Probably a preference
in the Hurricane glass, but I know that may be a bit more difficult
to travel with than a shot glass. So a new shot glass will be fine.

And it was stop and go the whole way - must have taken 20-25 minutes just to

With so many cars coming in from Maple St only 2-3 cars from the

Try travling through Groton in the morning. Six or seven roads leading
into Rte. 119. No one who lives in Groton feels they should wait two
minutes to get into the onflowing traffic. They just drive right in.
Traffic from the north takes 15 to 20 minutes some mornings to go 1/4
mile! My commute is always 60 to 75 minutes each way.

Another commute from H*ll last night. Didn't get out of here till after 5:30
so decided to take 27 figuring the traffic would have died down by that time.
NOT! It was backed up from the bridge to the Saab dealer. So this time I
turned around, headed back into Maynard and went out 117 to hit the back roads
up through West Acton. Well, 117 was all backed up going into Stow. ARG!!!!
Finally got through *that* traffic and then it was clear sailing.

Course then I stopped at the grocery store on my way home to finally get rid of
some cans I've been hauling around in my car and there was a woman ahead of me
with oodles of her own cans and the 2nd can machine was full. So I asked the
manager if they could empty it and they said sure give me a sec. by the time
they got to emptying it the woman was done with the other one. Then of course
I had to go wait in line to get my refund and because I wasn't buying anything
had to wait for the manager to come clear the apparent void on the register.

Was definitely a lesson in patience last night!!

Tonight I'm *definitely* not gonna even attempt 27! (Can't be late when there
are margaritas involved! ;-) )

Arggggg is right Barb! I hear ya. I spend so much time commuting
I've lost all patience for traffic. My morning commute is 93 South to
495 South. 93 is backed up every morning near the Merrimack River
and 495. At night, 93 North is always backed up at the NH border.
What's really nuts is it's usually the 70 to 0 in 5 seconds kind
of thing, then right back to 70, then back on the brakes. I feel
    like a slinky
Sooooooooo, I decided to preserve my sanity and shift my hours. I find
that leaving the house as little as 30min later and doing the same
when going home makes ***all*** the difference in the world. I now zip
right through at 70+ with seldom any slow downs. I no longer feel like
tearing someone's head off when I get to work. : -)

Only problem now....gotta watch out for the Stateies!! It's either
that or telecommute, or find a job in NH, or become independently
wealthy!! Hmmmmm, I'll take the latter. : -)
