108.0. "MAPI+Exchange+Crystal Reports Problem?" by OTOOA::ras004p06.tro.dec.com::naish (OO4ME Paul Naish DTN 631-7280) Sat Jan 25 1997 00:06

I have an odd problem with MAPI for ALL-IN-1 (SSB ver) since I installed
Crystal Reports for Exchange from the MS Web page.

I am prompted, and enter the password with no problem

I can get a list of folders in the MAIN drawer.

When I try and get a list of the contents of a folder, Exchange hangs and
the Task Manager shows it's not responding. I have to End Task to stop it.

Any ideas?

Discovered some additional behaviors

1. You cannot completed uninstall Crystal Reports for Exchange. I was
getting an error on a missing component after I removed it.

2. There may be some code linked to the entry of a serial number you need
to get from the manufacturer. This should be in Monday but I was blocked
from using one feature cause the serial number had not been entered.

3. TeamLinks and DIRECT-TO-1 still work ok when MAPI for ALL-IN-1 stops
working.

4. When I select a folder in my MAPI for ALL-IN-1 drawer, there is a bit
of network activity, then nothing. I ran the Performance Monitor and it
showed 100% Kernal time even though I was not running anything other than
Exchange with MAPI. Looks like the driver may be in an infinite loop.

5. I deinstall and reinstalled MAPI and Crystal reports when no success
on correcting the behaviour of 4.
108.2Trace Log FileOTOOA::ras024p05.tro.dec.com::naishOO4ME Paul Naish DTN 631-7280Sun Jan 26 1997 00:569
I've create a trace log file (2.3MB). If someone is willing to have a look
at it for me, please let me know where to send it.

I started Exchange, Selected my A1 Store, selected the MAIN Drawer then
a folder called 'Exchange Test'. At this point, Exchange hung. Performance
Monitor was showing the Kernel running at 100%.

The Task Manager showed Exchange not responding so I forced a shut down on
it.

    Hi,

Please send me the log file (IOSG::MAURICE). I'm afraid you're
pathfinding as this isn't a setup we've tested.

    Cheers

Thanks Stuart. I've mailed it to you.

    Hi,

I got the log file OK and it does show a tight loop. Unfortunately the
tight loop is in the Exchange Client code - the log file shows that the
Exchange client is continually asking us for two properties of the File
Cabinet which we are successfully returning.

We will need some help from Microsoft here, and we are currently in the
process of trying to get a dialogue with Exchange engineers. However
setting this up is taking a very long time.

In the meantime the only thing I can think of trying is to try creating
a profile where the ALL-IN-1 Message Store is not the default Message
Store. For example a profile created with Personal Folders & the
ALL-IN-1 Message Store, where Personal Folders is the default Message
    Store.

    Cheers

Bad news. I had installed Crystal reports hoping to produce a report
showing the size of entries to move from ALL-IN-1 to Exchange to start
doing some planning.

ALL-IN-1 is not my default mail at present, Exchange is so I'm not sure
what a new profile would do but I'll try it.

Don't bother - you already have the setup I had in mind ;^(

How about another tack. From ALL-IN-1 you can type EM PI which brings up
a menu with a drawer & a folder. Blank the folder to specify all
folders and press return. Then you get a menu from which you select B
(Brief) or F (Full) - select F (Full). Next you get a print destination
menu, and when you press return from here you get a print-out of all
the documents in the current drawer, which includes the file size of
each document. All that's missing is that it doesn't tell you the size
    of each attachment.

Stuart, the elegance of your solution leaves me breathless ;-}

Seriously, I was looking for a general solution to use on any Mailbox
Drawer in the format

	Drawer
		Folder
			Entry Size
				Att 1	Size
				Att 2	Size
				....
		Total Folder Size
	Total Drawer Size

One final note. I received the Registration number for Crystal Reports
today, entered it but still have the same non-behavior. There were a couple
of areas of CR which would not work without registration so thought this
may have been part of the problem

Just found the following in the Demo Script for Crystal Reports. This is a
list of DLL's which are installed by CR.

crext16.dll, crext32.dll: Extent the Exchange Client
pdsmapi.dll, p2smapi.dll: Read MAPI properties
p2strack.dll : Read Exchange Message Exchange Tracking Logs
uxdpost.dll, u2dpost.dll: Export to MAPI Folder
uflexch.dll, u2lexch.dll: Extract Info from Message Tracking Logs

Remember, Crystal Reports for Exchange is FREE from www.microsoft.com. Its
some deal between MS and Seagate so you can down-load it yourself if you
want to try and duplicate the problem.
