13.33Ireland beat Wales by 1, England stuff ScotlandELIS::TOWERSMon Feb 03 1997 15:4917
    Commiserations to Wales who lost by one point to Ireland.

    It looks as if Scotland have already booked the wooden spoon. They lost
    by 41-13 against England. It's such a shame the Rugby conference has
    died. There was a Scot in there who used to claim that only Scotland
    amongst the 5-Nations teams played the same quality of rugby as the
    southern hemisphere teams. I now realise that I misunderstood him. He
    obviously meant that only Scotland could make the other 5-Nations teams
    look as if they were playing rugby of southern hemisphere standards.

    FWIW I still think England have a long way to go. Their tackling was
    patchy and the backs still have the annoying habit of slowing down
    before they are tackled (with the possible exception of Carling). This
    usually guarantees that the chap trying to tackle them will succeed.

    Cheers,
    Brian

    I think this was the case, say for the 1st section of the match, but in
    the latter stages it looked like a completely different England team
    out there.
13.35ELIS::TOWERSMon Feb 03 1997 19:438
    Greg, I have to say that I think Scotland flattered England by:

    a) starting the match as if they were extras in a Keystone Kops movie,
    b) being so unfit that they are just not capable of playing the full 80
       minutes.

    Brian

    this or will we be minus Gary Connelly, Inga, JAson Robinson...

	Great, Rugby league takes on Soccer.....this will be fun. I would
	have thought though that Wigan would have taken on someone near the
	top of the game, rather than the Saints who are one up form the bottom.

    The good old BBC being what it is decided to delay the showing of
    Red Dwarf last night for the final of the Master Snooker.

    However, annoying as this is it did mean that I got to see a damn good
    match by Steve Davis, very entertaining stuff, shows that the 'Boy'
    still has it in him.

  A very satisfactory afternoon indeed. The speed and fitness of the
  English forwards is just incredible and the backs happily converted
  the opportunities created into tries. Having said that there is a lot
  England can do to improve on Saturdays performance. The line out
  strangely was bad and the centres where very quiet. Time to put Carling
  out to grass and DeGlanville (sp?) to my mind just doesn't have the
  class to be in the England side, let alone captain.

  Anyway the two easy games are out the way with record points wins and
  the two hardest games are left. The Welsh match will probably be the
  hardest and indeed they where unlucky not to win in Paris on Saturday.
  Also Congratulations Scotland on their most successful weekend of the
  championship ;-)

  Rgds, Steve.

13.44VAXCAT::LAURIEDesktop Consultant, Project EnterpriseMon Feb 17 1997 20:536
    I agree, de Glanville just isn't there, and Guscott should be back. I'd
    like to see Delaglio as captain. The only downside to these recent
    hammerings is that prat Rowell will hang on, and I think he should have
    gone at least a year ago.

    Cheers, Laurie.

    Well (Yo! RM)

    	Miracles can occur, against the odds England won the Third test by
    	4 wickets.

    	An amazing stand of 118 by Atherton was obviously the confidence
    	booster the side needed.

    Next we'll see England Football team beating the Mexicans...
